Duron 1.2Ghz to Athlon XP 1700 --> worth it?

Post by OnlyOneKenobi »

Is it worth it to upgrade to an Athlon XP 1700? I don´t have lots of money around, but I figure if I do need to upgrade my processor, the XP 1700 would be a good bet, since it falls into the R620-R650 price range at the places I´ve checked. But the question is, will it give me much of a performance boost?
I´m still quite happy with my Duron 1.2Ghz, but I know technology moves along so quickly you need to upgrade periodically to avoid shelling out R10 000 for a complete new system.
My Duron 1.2 Ghz seems to run faster than my friend´s Pentium 4 1.6Ghz.

for best results do your best to get a 13 micron core. it is more rectangular than square, unlocked by default and should easily reach 2ghz. arrow altek has 1800+´s for R780.

OnlyOne, unless you are selling your old components after you upgrade, you will end up spending more money than if you just periodically buy a whole new system. The best way to do it to stay completely up to date and spend the least money is to constantly buy slightly under the best available and sell your old stuff, which will be only slightly worse again. That way there is the smallest price gap between the buy and sell Personally, I couldn´t be bothered to go to all the hassle of constantly having to look for people to buy my stuff
My advice to anyone wanting to upgrade is always get the best you can afford
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
