Looking for an hdd enclosure
Looking for an hdd enclosure
Hi guys. Been a long time since I posted here.
Anyway, can someone please point out if they know of a 4 or 5 ( 3.5-inch ) bay hdd enclosure. (preferably from a local store)
I MUST be able to switch each drive on individually. As such I'll use it in a JBOD way.
These guys from icydock would have been perfect if it wasn't for the lack of an individual power switch.

Thanks

I have this bad boy myself
I don't recall ever seeing an multple HDD enclosure with individual power switches tho... good luck!
Re: Looking for an hdd enclosure
I was looking at that one myself. From what I hear on youtube people have a lot a of problems with it. (blown PCB, fried hdd's)
Are all hdd's spinning? What if you dont' need data from one? Hot swop it out? Or are you on RAID?
I have an those sata-to-usb cables and it's a friggen mission to swop between my 7 hdd's.
It can all go in my case but do I really want all 8 hdd's spinning when I only need one? Hence the need for a power switch.
If push comes to shove I can always get one where I can just remove the tray. Not ideal but ag ja.

Haters gonna hate.SoulBlade wrote:I was looking at that one myself. From what I hear on youtube people have a lot a of problems with it.
People do stupid shirt like run it with all 4 drives spinning while plugged into a USB2.0 port, use USB extender cables and all manner of other silly things...
Mine has been going strong for 6 months now - no sign of giving up and no problems, but of course, your mileage may vary
I only have 2 drives in there currently but have had 4 going at once.SoulBlade wrote:Are all hdd's spinning? What if you dont' need data from one? Hot swop it out? Or are you on RAID?
Hot swap works fine altho getting the drives out of the bays is a bit of a mission without turning it off first and usually needs a small flat screwdriver or other such tool to help pry the bays open.
The HX4 doesn't do RAID natively and only an idiot would try and software RAID this thing.
No RAID isn't a problem for me.
If you want RAID/JBOS then you will want the HX4R which is around R400 more
Re: Looking for an hdd enclosure
Skip to round about 1:13. Just what I need. Now just to find the product page and a local supplier. Something tells me this might be a costly import nightmare.hamin_aus wrote:SoulBlade wrote:I MUST be able to switch each drive on individually.

Re: Looking for an hdd enclosure
Don't think anyone locally will stock those and I cant find them listed in Aus either....
Looks like the exclusive domain of ebay drop-shippers. Probably direct from China. Still, if it's what you want and you have R1500 burning a hole in your pocket...
