Xbox One - the new xbox
Yes microsoft is set to reveal the details on the next xbox on 21 May 2013. The announcement has a lot riding on it especially with the rumour and a tweet from one of the microsoft guys.
First there is tweet where someone from MS called out Sony for not showing the box. So it is expected that Microsoft will ...or should, show theirs. Don't dish it if you can't take it.
*edit - see link below*
The second a rumour that the next box will need an always online connection. Yes it sounds like a stupid idea but hey a vaccuum needs electricity and its your fault for living in a crappy place without a proper connection, so let's see MS turn around from that one.
Microsoft did a 180. Xbox One will no longer require an always online or 24 hour check. However you will still need to connect day one for patches.

We have a launch date! 22 November 2013. No release date for SA though.

Re: Next Xbox reveal
Its called the Xbox One.
Specs:
8 core cpu
8gb ram
usb 3, wifi, bluray.
Pretty much the same as the ps4. However the system is built around things outside gaming.

Re: Next Xbox reveal
The reveal was lame. Atleast we got to see the box. But now the rumours are just swirling around since they did not kill the connection needed thing completely. They did say you won't need a constant connection which is good but does that mean it will be like steam? Activate your games and have a connection every few hours/days/weeks to verify?

The only thing that's exciting about this console is the Kinect. It will be able to recognise different people's speech and can actually detect heartbeat. Everything else is so dull.

Re: Next Xbox reveal
Rusty your only playing a game released 15 years ago because the activation server was not introduced yet.
Why would I buy an xbox one?
1 - DSTV now offers their channels over xbox (...)
2 - Telkom upped all line speeds to 40mb (...)
3 - Uncapped accounts are under R400 for that 40mb speed (...)
4 - XBL now has servers inside South Africa (...)
5 - ...that are bridge with EU to give us full access to content (...)
I think I'll leave it at that. ...ok, I won't.
"Xbox, go PS4!"

Re: Next Xbox reveal
not *really* the thread but...
activation==software DRM
i highlighted it because there is very little difference between the PC and the xbox aside from the lack of expansion support, outdated tech and the lock-in... which, by all appearances, is being taken to new heights with this incarnation...
oh, and the "benefits" of paying monthly subs for functionality...

But rusty, its the cloud... THE CLOUD. Whenever your to incompetent to manage your own data, put it on the internet ..er, I mean the cloud. Whenever your worried that your data is at risk on your home system put it on the internet ..er, cloud (somethings wrong with me today). And let's not forget to link your game to a piece of hardware that has a 5 year life cycle. Who doesn't like paying others to do something you would normally do yourself (or had for free)?rustypup wrote:oh, and the "benefits" of paying monthly subs for functionality...

Erh meh gahd! In this day and age of the always on, broad band connection, it is absolute sacrilege that the XBox One will need to connect to the internet! How are we going to survive this heinous act by MS?!?!

Re: Xbox One - the new xbox
I'll take a failure to authenticate as a sign that I should probably go play out side for a while

No xbone for SA? Woot?
Canada is on the list though. You have my condolences. Bro gamers and their Fifa 72 are going to thrive now.

Yup, Canada is on the list but I'm still not going to get an Xbox One. PS4 all the way for me. I like how they've handled used games and DRM. Of course they're leaving it to publishers to make the decision but that's still a hell of a lot better than implementing the kind of rules M$ has.

Re: Xbox One - the new xbox
Rusty while you say consoles are hardware DRM you will then have to say all windows pc games are hardware DRM to. No windows coded game will run on any console. So in that one regard I am willing to look away and say those games are platform specific.
You can still play any game meant for its platform without needing a 3rd party to make your game work. That is the true evil of DRM.
Even so, I believe MS has a market, I just don't think it will be a big one going forward atleast for a couple of years until internet access is as reliable as electricity (and I do say it lightly with regards to SA).

Dunno how legit this is but:
http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Xbox-O ... 56737.html
Seems xbone games were being run on some heavy duty PC with windows 7 as OS (vs windows 8 as xbone OS) with nvidia 7 series geforce cards (again, amd radeon intigrated in the xbone). No idea if its true. If it is however I feel sorry for whoever picks up the system even more now.
