Doom 4... REBOOT!

Post by StarBound »

So we all saw the screenshots that was hoped to be the sequel to Doom 2 and the remake of Doom 2 Hell on Earth. And now this happens...

I personally don't think we need a reboot of the entire series. It is a long time for a sequel and I surely won't mind a sequel that looks miles different from its prequel. As long as it is a true to ID shooter and not a Call of Doom game I will be happy. Oh wait! Stay away from anything similar to Rage and remember, ID = the benchmark for PC gaming so make it look better than great.

What was so terribly wrong with Rage? It had slivers of brilliance in it, a huge step forward for iD IMO. Doom 3 and Quake 4 were really bad. Rage had amazingly good level design for an FPS, enemies that behaved sensibly ( they didn't just run into your bullets and even stood in formation and flanked, among other nice touches) and and… Loosum Hagar!

I did hate the silly way they put together the hubs and the Bethesda style NPCs but I would be insanely happy if they carried all the good stuff over to Doom 4 and left out the bad.

5 minutes of mindless fetch-questing and repetitive cash/upgrade grinding...

the game was horrible...

picked it up for $4 and still feel ripped off...

Totally agree on the fetch questing/ weak RPG elements. It's why I mentioned the hubs, they didn't belong. Judged as an FPS, not counting the lulls between combat, I thought it was pretty good.

Sonny, watch yourself, them's fightin' words.

iD has not lead the field in a long time, but even if Doom 4 is just as good as Doom 3, I will be happy.

Also.. no permanent internet connection plox.

just unbelievably short and completely lacking in challenge...

i will never forget the final battle... i was just starting to come around to the thinking the game may redeem itself and i could actually begin enjoying it when... GAME OVER...

i was floored..

to be fair, the doom/fear games have never grabbed my attention for very long... i much prefer stalker-type depth to "jump at you with spooky sound effects!" every 2 minutes like clockwork...

Tried playing Rage again. Haven't touched it for a year. The game looks bad. The texture pop-in as I move my view annoys the living daylight out of me. It really doesn't have that ID software signature to it.

A shame since the character reactive animations were done very well.
