Re: friends psu
Well it will be a bit touch and go. Could work just fine or it could not, this is also an el cheapo psu so chances are it produces nowhere near 450w
A reputable 500W+ psu would be a safer bet

Re: friends psu
A good budget PSU a lot of people recommend is the Gigabyte 585W Odin. They are relatively cheap, but of reasonable quality and should easily be able to accommodate that GPU. It does come with one 6+2 pin power connector. I currently have a Huntkey and it has not set a foot wrong yet. They are also pretty cheap.

Re: friends psu
450W should be fine by a calculator point but 500W+ with that 6/8pin is the safer bet as stig pointed out.
Re: friends psu
Does the Intex PSU even have the 6-pin connector for this card? Just checking.

Re: friends psu
Usually the cards come with a molex to 6pin connector. But its not recommended to use it like that.

Re: friends psu
Stay away from Gigabyte, CM, Raidmax and the likes. Seasonic, Corsair, and Antec...is the only psu's which should ever be on your shopping trolley period.Raidmax, CM and Gigabyte out source their production of psu's to companies names I can't even pronounce and usually ends having the worst components installed on it.
Another thing online PSU calculators tells you the watts you might be needing which is totally irrelevant, 12volts amps supplied by said PSU is important and all that you should be looking at( note 3.3v and 5v is rarely exceeded, unless you use a lot of devices requiring it, so you can ignore those amps) .The GTX650 requires 6pin and produces 65watt and requires 5.01 amps.
Pending CPU, board, ram, Drives and Usb devices, you can run it on a 450watt easily.

Re: friends psu
you have a point there. Few actually make their own psu, they get somebody else to do that for them and then stick their badge on it.
450 is probably just enough but this is a cheap no name thing so I bet it is just a re-badged 300w thing

Re: friends psu
Meh corsair CX500 best bang for buck...for entry/mid range GPU, hell you could run my system from a CX500, without too much hassle.I had to go with the Corsair gs700. as I have 8x 120mm fans in my Cm 690...Just to give you some idea the Gs700's fan kicks when it is at 40% or more load....With all the gear and stuff....I struggle to reach the 40% in idle mode, that just how good and clean these corsair's are.....even doing prime95 or superpi the fan still doesn't kick in

Re: friends psu
Are those genuine 80+ rated psu's?

The last two are.

Re: friends psu
For those prices? Oh my. Can you find any reviews? Stig is right, they seem a little too cheap.

Re: friends psu
Ah, Thermaltake. A lot of hate for that brand. He should get the Powerock then.

Re: friends psu
I think the best solution here would be to save up a little longer and get something a bit more substantial, even with 80% efficiency 450w is still not much. 550W at least
Re: friends psu
I totally agree, but we haven't yet had success convincing this dude to stray from doing things his way.

Re: friends psu
Its not that bad. They dont blow up every 5 seconds.....
As far as I know the budget antec psu's are made by FSP and corsair by CWT(some by seasonic too). And seasonic obviously make their own stuff
Seem to do ok in reviews so go for one of those brands, but anything made by FSP or CWT seems ok
