8ta Bad Download Speeds (Huawei E173)
8ta Bad Download Speeds (Huawei E173)
hi,
Recently got me the Internet 5 promo from 8ta (10gigs sounded gooooood), but when i eventually got it, my download speeds were up to **********.......
My 3G modem is capable of 7.2mb speeds, and i live in Hatfield Pretoria with really good signal... but i only get like, 400kb/ps speeds (50KB/ps) on average.......some times it jumps to 2mb/ps but only for a few seconds.
I just want to know if im the only one with this problem or are there any others with this slow speeds?
Thanks....

I do know that 8ta's coverage can be a bit patchy. What you need to check is if it is doing roaming on MTN which is what it will do if it cant pick up actual 8ta signal, if so then that is why you have poor speed.
Either way you will never get the full 7.2mb/s , but 400k does sound rather slow

i know their coverage is patchy, but come on, in Hatfield it must be fine ! ill find out about the MTN roaming........
and im not expecting download speeds of 7mb.... anything above 1.5mb/ps would be fine, but not 0.4mb/ps....

Their coverage will be fine, the network will just be oversubscribed.

I'm getting way better DL speeds at 04:00 in the morning than during the day.

The general consensus over at MyBB is that if you have 8ta anywhere but in Cape Town you're going to suffer. There are exceptions, of course, but that appears to be the overall feeling.

Well in my case it might be slower but I'm not getting the dropped connection humus that I had with Vodacom.
So I'm not complaining. Yet.

Re: 8ta Bad Download Speeds (Huawei E173)
Well your 8ta got better and mine got worse.... A LOT worse. On both my desktop pc with a huawei e173 and my iPad with its own microsim For the last week or so my downloads have been in the 10-15kbps range. Sometimes even slower than that. Having used 8ta since October last year, I never had issues until now. Downloading 800kb worth of email from google took 20-30 minutes. Web pages constantly time out. Even browsing the web is damn near impossible. I have complained via the correct channels and await with baited breath for feedback from 8ta.
