Before KALSTER and Starbound join the party, let me just say that your PSU is hardly crap.

Re: Graphics Card
Radeon HD 7850. Does the job at 1920x1200 (and will do 2560x1600 provided that you lower the detail), is stated as having a max TDP of 130W, and retails for ~R3,000.
That being said, it's hard to make a recommendation based on power consumption without knowing what else you're running. The power calculator thread (hopefully it still works, I haven't used it in years) may help you out there.

Its too late. They have arrived.Stuart wrote:Before KALSTER and Starbound join the party, let me just say that your PSU is hardly crap.
As Ron said Radeon 7850 isnt a bad choice if you don't mind amd. I would recommend this one as I am an msi fanboi

But if you managed to squeeze an extra few rands from your wallet my absolute recommendation is this one:

The gigabyte gtx 670 windforce. The only worth while geforce when looking for the high end stuff. But it is still rather pricy. The ball is in your court on this one.
As for the PSU so eagerly pointed out by the rat, it will work. The new generation gpus uses much less power. Even the monster 680gtx uses 25% less than the 580gtx yet it is 40% faster in many cases.
Re: Graphics Card
but wont PCI-e 3.0 fail on PCI-e 2.0?.....and ya ima not sure bout the recent ones...but my old Gigabyte card burnt out afta like a year

Re: Graphics Card
They are backwards compatible, so no worries. Your PSU will be fine as well.
If you are willing to go a bit above R4k, then the only card to go for would be the GTX670. A few places have them for around and under R4.5k....and I just noticed Starbound replied as well. Prepare to be amazed by it.

Re: Graphics Card
That wasn't asus, it was gigabyte. Reason I linked that one is because of the custom fans that should keep it cooler. Don't think MSI has the twinfrozer avalible for the 670 yet.
Re: Graphics Card
i know it wasnt asus .....ima not a huge fan of gigabyte, they are HUGE and my old one kinda overheated alot and died....i am a bit of a MSi fanboy.....loved the TFii series

Re: Graphics Card
err, aren't all gaming cards "HUGE". I have always found gigabyte products to be pretty tough, but that msi tf II range is pretty awesomeToKeN wrote:i know it wasnt asus .....ima not a huge fan of gigabyte, they are HUGE and my old one kinda overheated alot and died....i am a bit of a MSi fanboy.....loved the TFii series

Re: Graphics Card
I am not so sure. I don't find them to be bigger than the other brands, they are usually based around nvidia/AMD's reference design anyway.ToKeN wrote:cant argue with that...however Gigabyte cards are bigger than most others and ima not sure if it will fit in my case....will either just make it or just miss....so i rather play it safe nd be a true fanboy XD
I know all about being a fanboy. A gigabyte fanboy am I, but either way just make sure you get the card dimensions off the manufactures website and then take measurements to make sure it will fit
Re: Graphics Card
u dont need to worry bout dat hey.....i spent 3 months with a R3500 paperweight on my desk caus my case was to small
