I believe uncapped 4mb from axxess will allow up to 10mb after hours. Although I still feel that I am being shaped to **** after just mildly downloading 5gb a day. Sheesh. The world has moved on. Time to do the same.

Telkom ADSL speed upgrades underway
Telkom kicked off its ADSL speed upgrade today (24 August 2012), where customers currently on an “Up to 1024 kpbs” ADSL offering will automatically be upgraded to “Up to 2048 kpbs” ADSL.
This first upgrade cycle is expected to continue for approximately six weeks – the time required to cover the national base Telkom said.
Customers currently on an “Up to 384 kbps” ADSL offering will be upgraded to “Up to 1024 kbps” in the next upgrade phase which will commence in October 2012. This process is also expected to continue for approximately six weeks.
“The speed upgrades enable Telkom Internet to effectively increase the value to entry-level broadband customers. It also illustrates that Telkom is in a position to create new products and services that allow customers to run multiple bandwidth-hungry applications simultaneously, and at faster speeds,” Telkom said in a press statement.
Telkom Internet uncapped ADSL subscribers will automatically be upgraded from the “do Uncapped Advanced” (Uncapped Up to 1Mbps), to 2 Mbps at no additional cost.

Re: Telkom planning to upgrade 384k users
So they have delayed it. Don't exactly have much expectations for this upgrade, doubt I will ever see speeds even close to 1Mb
Can it and use the hsdpa I must. More expensive yes but I can actually watch something on youtube without having to leave it to buffer for a week

For those wondering what the "advice" is:djwez wrote:line was upgraded last night according to telkom's website... however was still seeing the same speeds. phoned them up and complained and in 2 mins it was sorted (thanks Ron for the advice)
- Dial 10210.
- Get through to ADSL technical support. Use menu options 1, 2, 1, 3 to get there.
- When the support agent answers, utter the following magic incantation: "I would like my ADSL profile to be reset".
Folks that don't explicitly request a profile reset will still be upgraded; however, Telkom is adopting a phased approach to the upgrade, so these folks may wait for up to six weeks.

Login to your router, it should state your upload/download speed on its summary or "home" page.
EDIT: Alternatively, you could check the speed with www.speedtest.net

Re: Telkom planning to upgrade 384k users
Ah. I was thinking there was a Page on telkoms website thar tells you ok your line is now 1024k. But the profile is not reset so you stay on 384. Unless I misunderstood I can only call that number 10210 if the modern tells me I have 1024k line?

The modem will only tell you you have a 1mbps line if you have a 1mbps line. You have to disconnect your ADSL and let it re-sync. If it still shows 384 kbps, do Ron's thing and let them reset your profile.DeathStrike wrote:Ah. I was thinking there was a Page on telkoms website thar tells you ok your line is now 1024k. Re: Telkom planning to upgrade 384k users
Ah. Thanks man for clearing up my confusion
Re: Telkom planning to upgrade 384k users
Cool. Good luck!
Looking to get my line going again shortly as well. It's been too long. Mobile data is fast and all (Youtube on full HD!), but for anything more than a few GB you start paying through your teeth.
Axxess (and I presume all the Internet Solutions resellers?) have this thing that after 20h00 you get full LINE speed. A 10Mbps line is R359. I think I can live with the throttling.

Re: Telkom planning to upgrade 384k users
Ok I must be doing it wrong.
I called them quoted the magic phrase and the guy tells me he can't reset my profile he can only reset my password or my adsl line. So ad I don't have adsl account with telkoms I say reset my line. He does this takes 10 minutes. I reset my modem and it still only sync at 384.
Any ideas? Please note I live in cape Town? Are any of you guys from here? I suspect they only upgrade jhb so far.

Most likely, you got one of the clueless agents. I'd retry and hope to get someone on the other end who knows what he/she/it/blob is doing.DeathStrike wrote:Ok I must be doing it wrong.

Re: Telkom planning to upgrade 384k users
Mine is syncing at 2mb but since the Exchange is still congested there is no point in even asking Mweb to move me from 1mb to 2mb so I will stay 1mb until Telkom gets the fiber upgrade done on my Exchange...
