Corsair Performance 3 SSD: DO NOT BUY!

Post by Anakha56 »

Hello All,

So I dont normally do this but just in case anyone is looking at buying a SSD do not look at the Performance 3 range. I recently bought one and started having a lot of issues 2 months into having the SSD: random BSoD, Windows starting with chkdsk and never completing, drive not being detected within BIOS and when I tried cloning the drive I would get I/O errors. These problems would happen regardless of what SATA port you use on any machine. So I formatted the drive and sent it back to Prophecy who in turn sent it to their supplier. Both Prophecy and supplier reported no issues with the drive and sent it back to me and currently it is working fine.

However today I decided to research the issue and boy oh boy this is a big issue. Below are the links for many different users who are having the same & different issues with the drive:

So I have emailed Prophecy with these links and am awaiting a reply.

So as a warning to all, do not buy these SSD's. Look at another brand even Corsair are sending people other SSD drives in replacement of the RMA'd one's.

Not an issue as big as corsair but those looking at OCZ and other SF-2281 controlled SSDs might want to go with either Intel or Kingston as they have fixed some issues with that controller.

Anakha, have you tried using it in sata2 ports instead? I think people get less problems when using the slower ports.

SATA 2 ports dont make a difference at all nevermind the fact that using SATA 2 ports kinda defeats the purpose of me having this lovely fast drive.

Just got a call from Prophecy saying that unless Corsair acknowledges the problem or I get their tech support to send me a ticket saying that I must RMA it I am quite literally screwed because their supplier will only swap it out with results that can be reproduced. Now I am sure as hell not going to send a dying drive to anyone with my personal information on it so I will format the drive and guess what that solves the issue. So yeah caught between a rock & hard place...

/really peeved...

//Not Prophecy's fault more their supplier & Corsair but this has really left a sour taste in my mouth...

///Should have bought a Intel drive...

Contact Corsair Directly - tell them that you have this problem with the drive. They will probably tell you to RMA it straight to them.

Yeah I will be as soon as I get home. Dont have the drive serial on hand. As soon as they say RMA then I can go back to Prophecy. Until then I am screwed...

You can RMA it right to them in the States. You post it to them and they post a replacement drive back to you

Will see how it goes. Would prefer local because then I get it quicker but going by what is shown on the forums it might be best to send it straight to Corsair. People who have done this have gotten new models instead of getting the same series.
