Guild Wars 2 - Official Thread
How is this possible. I swear I created a thread on this game already and posted some of the vids. How can it not exist?
Anyway, GW2 is now in open beta if you signed up for it (closed yesterday). Here is a preview from GT:

*EDIT*
The initial server has been removed from the server lists and currently is being voted on. For more info look at:
http://southernlegion.co.za/index.php?action=forum
That is the Southern Legion SA GW2 guilds page. Feel free to register and join if your one of those types. The server will now be AURORA GLADE but it is being voted on.

Re: Guild Wars 2
I remember that thread. Ron did some pruning a while back, perhaps that's what befell it. I also remember being interested in this game but I don't remember a thing about it now...

Re: Guild Wars 2
I've been following it at a minimal level meaning only the vids they posted about the classes, races and a few interview vids. The prospect was it is WoW without the monthly fee and something new, not revamped as it were. GW was a nice distraction from WoW but WoW was far superior and easier to understand.

Re: Guild Wars 2
So I just saw this yesterday and I have to say ...DO WANT!
https://buy.guildwars2.com/collectors-edition
I can afford it but is it worth it is the main question. Seeing as I got the ME3 CE for R400 and the Diablo 3 CE was price tagged at R670 a direct conversion of R1500 is a bit steap.

Re: Guild Wars 2
I've been waiting for GW2 since 2 years ago. GW1 was a break from WoW at time but it lacked the open world and without a jump button even the gathering areas were boring when you had limited actions.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Now this is scary. This morning GW2 CE went live for BTGames. 2:30pm when I checked the site all collectors editions were sold out.
I think the SA market is completely misjudged.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Has anyone gotten their beta weekend pass yet? Because countdown is sitting at 2d23h and I don't see how it will be possible to download anything over 12gb prior to the time if they don't send out the things.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Ok after playing a bit here are my findings:
Visually the game looks great but there is one major issue that brings down your framerate. My system has places where the game slows down to under 30fps. So anything from 15-20fps in a crowded zone.
Events that replaces quests is both hit and miss. Meaning in WoW you get sent from one place to another through doing quests while in GW2 you will do a "quest" area, then a world event will happen and you will take part in it. But there isn't anything from stopping you to go to a place where you shouldn't be.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Other things done right:
Your attacks are weapon skills:
Equiping different weapons changes the type of attacks you can do. For instance ranger using a short bow is focused on poisons, dazes, concussions while long bow is rapid fire, aoe and direct damange. A ranger with a greatsword can be just as dangerous. That said, the warrior with a sword vs the ranger with a sword will not end in the same way WoW did it.
Downwards leveling:
As it states. You run around a lvl1-4 area with your lvl80 and you will be restricted to the stats of a lvl4. But running around a lvl60 area with your lvl4 and you will not live to survive.
PvP upscales you to max level with a pvp starter kit.
XP for everything:
Clearly lvl isnt everything but there are so many ways in getting it. Gathering materials gives you xp, killing stuff gives xp, completing events gives xp, reviving other players and npcs gives xp.
Your roll is:
Adventurer! Everyone in the game does damage and gets rewarded in the same way. Every class has some sort of survival skill, healing and knockbacks/stuns.
Guild Wars 2 plays like its own game, not like GW1 or like WoW or SWTOR. It is something different.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Heads up for this beta weekend 8 June, there is a 5GB update to the game. Seems the 2 major things are lvl caps being raised for the test and added a dungeon.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Something new that was added. Remember in WoW where you would jump/climb to places you never should have been able to reach? Well they felt it was a good idea to add vistas, jump puzzles, to see how high you could climb and how you could get to places that normally shouldnt be accessable.
Your reward? A short flyby of the surrounding area.

Re: Guild Wars 2
The story is set some 400 years after GW1 Eye of the North ends I believe. The world is united. Lions Arch is the central world hub as before but each race has its own capital. Charr, Sylvari, Human, Asura, Norn all live together fighting the risen dragons.
I don't know much of the story. Each character has a customized personal story. Eg you choose your a noble, misfit, farmer and how things unfolded. I didn't touch the story in the beta that much.
My personal story was that I am noble, my sister joined the army and was lost against a battle with the centuars and I found a lead that she was alive while dealing with a bandit threat.
The game is open world like WoW. Quests come in the form of tasks with a variaty of ways to complete them. Events are on the spot quests to kill/escort/fix something ect.

Wait for the next 3 vids I am converting and uploading. Not combat but screwing around in water and finding a vista.
One of the vids. The others was even more pointless

To everyone interested in GW2 please be advised that there is currently deliberations on the server to be joined for the most SA players. Aurora Glades and Gunner's Hold are up for voting.
