Webpage Conundrum

Post by Cupis »

Hi Guys,

I got stuck with something the other day, that I had no idea to solve. I thought maybe I would run past you guys for you to give me tips and suggestions.

Scenario: The particular user cannot access a website on his computer. The kick is that he can access any other website and there is nothing special about the one he cant access (ie flash etc). The next odd thing is that every other person on the network can access the website.

Why on earth would block one web page for one user and not for anyone else? There is no web-filtering or Proxy happening for this particular site.

Regards,
Cupis

I assume you cleared the browser cache and tried again? Are you able to try loading the site in another browser on his computer? Just start with the obvious.

Check his hosts file - we used to prank people by using it to redirect their favourite sites to somewhere else, or nowhere at all.

@Stuart:

I have not tried another Browser at this point but I will try that, I try clearing cache though. I also thought maybe to try another user profile on that computer to identify if its profile or PC problem.

@Jamin:

Believe it or not, I have checked that. :lol:

Ok so I solved it,

I pinged the site fine, but it still would not open the page.

I then installed Firefox to test what Stuart suggested.It worked there, then I go back to IE and its working?!!?

I have no idea what it did, but something weird got changed sooooomewhere and its working.

Add that to my list of Weird and wonderful Troubleshooting Techniques.
