New cell phone???
New cell phone???
I need some advice as to which smart phone to get. I have a short list and not in any particular order:
Nokia N8
Sony Ericsson Arc / Neo
Samsung Galaxy S2
I have had Nokia's for nearly every phone I have ever had hence the N8. I am keen to try Android so either the S2 or Arc or Neo will be just fine.
I would use the phone for mail and some quick photo's, maybe video as well when the need arrises.
No Black berries as they are unreliable imo. Apple is over rated and you pay more for not much more.
Anything else I should have a look at?
And lastly what are your opinions of the phones mentioned?

Re: New cell phone???
Stay away from Nokia.
Had a couple of them already and with the current tech out there you would also ditch it in a trash can as soon as you actually start working on an SC or HTC or anything else for that matter.
Why are you not looking at anything HTC... the news scaring you away?

The S2 is awesome and has an 8megapixel camera- I am loving mine
Re: New cell phone???
I forgot about them. But I also don't like them that much either. Nice phones but not to my taste.RuadRauFlessa wrote: Why are you not looking at anything HTC... the news scaring you away?

From your list, the Galaxy S2 has my vote.

Ok and what issues (Even minor ones) have you had with the S2?

None - not one. But ask Ryan and Anky - they have one too now. I don't do fancy stuff with mine - I have modded the themes and added tons of apps and stuff, but nothing too hi brow. Not one crash - no errors at all. Just should have gotten a bigger data package. The temptation to play is great.

That is rather easily rectified, you know.Tribble wrote:Just should have gotten a bigger data package.

I know - 75mb just doesn't cut it. Put data roaming and packet data on before I got on the Gautrain and turned it off in Rosebank - it had used almost 2 meg in that short time. Darn Twitter!
But I have the Galaxy Tab with 2 Gig so I try and use that for my "playing".

If the Galaxy S2 has good wi-fi, then take it. I really like my arc, but the wi-fi is quite terrible.

Re: New cell phone???
The S2 has fantastic wifi. We have two settings on our router - it connects to both the faster and the slower with no trouble

Oh I dont know because they sold out to the devil while they had a working OS? They threw away countless man hours of developers because the new boss wanted to get chummy with his old mates? Outdated OS? You know just the usual...PureFire wrote:Why the hatred for Nokia???
Samsung Galaxy SII is very good. What HTC lack in hardware build they make up for in the software build, I am really missing some of the Sense features but am getting over it very quickly. If you want a big touch screen, big internal storage with the ability to go bigger through a micro sd card then go Samsung. Cant say much about Sony except the hardware is slightly lacking when compared to the Samsung...

Re: New cell phone???
From your list I would say Samsung Galaxy S2. But the HTC Sensation has about the same features and the same speed, its a bit heavier though, but I can't say anything negative about it. In the less than a week I have it I already dropped it 4 times, and it doesn't have a scratch.

Re: New cell phone???
My only problem with the Sensation is that the hardware is lacking. You pay more for the Sensation and you only get 1GB of internal memory. Watch 6 months down the line HTC will give you some carp about being unable to upgrade the phone for some bogus reason. Galaxy is cheaper and has more internal memory which can also be expanded on. Been burned 3 times by HTC and I refuse to go back to them...

Re: New cell phone???
Congrats on a sound choice. You won't be sorrySamaya wrote:From reviews I read, there is not really much too choose between the phones. 2 cores vs 1 core won't matter much as you cant really dial or talk faster
But on the other hand, It would make a difference when using some apps on the phone.
So S2 it is then. The clincher is the 1080p video recording btw.
Thanks for your opinions.
Re: New cell phone???
SGSII = cannot go wrong there.
Just a note, make sure the simcard you use is not an old "version"... I had 3 weeks of intermittent disconnected service until somebody at MTN told me my simcard is 4 years old and that would be the likely culprit.
Te message you get is "Mobile Network Not Available".
After the new sim everything worked like it should.

Re: New cell phone???
Strange - my sim is older than that. Had this number for ages - almost 8 years I believe. And no problems with it at all. But glad you got it sorted.
Re: New cell phone???
I'm getting that a lot on my iPhone lately, but I got a new SIM when I got the phone, so my problem is evidently not the same as yours.Sojourn wrote:SGSII = cannot go wrong there.
