Outlook is bleak - crashes on startup...

Post by Prime »

My neighbours outlook keeps crashing on startup and only opens in safemode. We've disabled startup items and it made no difference. What else can I try?

edit: It's outlook 2007.

Ran diagnostics and found nothing,

Have you tried disabling add-ins?

*edit
MS Support article on issue - search for "What to do if Outlook stops crashing in Safe mode? " halfway down the page.

Run the outlook.exe with the /no extensions command and see what happens?

Other people have found that disabling the windows search service helps getting outlook to behave. But then again, not having windows search could also be a issue.

Other than that, backup their mails and re-install.

Edit the shrortcut to outlook and add /noextensions at the end. My bad, my OP I had a space in that should not be there.

No I'm sure it a legitimate reason. I mean, a dying hard drive can only affect outlook. :|

In Joburg, once your neighbour discovers that you know how to access Control Panel in Windows, all his/her IT woes become your problem.

Unfortunately, that is completely and utterly true

In Joburg, once your neighbour discovers that you know how to access Control Panel in Windows, all his/her IT woes become your problem.
And you start getting questions like: "What can you tell me about the AMD x2 quadcore? My neighbour says it is the fastest." or "Can I play GTA IV? I have a 5670, a 2.2GHz single core AMD and 1GB DDR2 RAM?".

This is so true.

I saw a lovely reply to a similar problem the other day.
Neighbour: You are an electrical engineer, do you think you can fix my TV?
Engineer: No!!! I have far to much equipment and knowledge to be fixing your TV.
