sticky pc

Post by Cyberduke »

When I try to run the following games my pc runs sticky: OF dragon rising, Tom Clancy's rainbow six vegas 2 , racedriver Grid, battlefield bad company 2 and prototype. My pc's specs are:

Nvidia geforce 8400gs 512mb
Q6600
2,5 Gb RAM
Windows xp 32bit

As you can see my pc meets the minimum specs required to run the games and in some cases even the recommended specs (according to the website canyourunit.com)please any help appreciated.

Thank You

I don't think I have ever heard the term "runs sticky" before. Please elaborate...

Also, your graphics card is fairly dated.
What settings are you running your games on - I hope you don't expect to run the with all settings on high?
Try running these games at their lowest graphics settings, and then if that doesn't "run sticky", slowly ramp it up until you have an acceptable balance between performance and looks.
Updating the graphics card drivers may help, if you have not done this already.

Thanks I also didnt know quite if that it is the right term (my father sais it is haha) I don't know if you understand afrikaans but in afrikaans it means"My rekenaar speel hakkerig" Uhm to elaborate in English: IT does'nt runs smoothly it is the opposite. Acording to google translate it mean that my pc runs hesitantly i am not sure if that is tectonically correct either.

I was running a 2007 version of my driver and i am updating it now.

Also I was running the games on default video settings.

I would put the blame on the GFX card. I had a 8600 about 3 years ago, and while it did the job, its wasn't very good, even back then.

Also check if there is not a bunch of programs running in the background.

So jy is afrikaans?

Not unless you're playing Quake.

On your budget I'd seriously consider a second hand card.

The ddr on the gfx isnt important but saying its 128bit, 192bit, 256bit is important. For R1000 your looking at the radeon 56xx range of cards. I only look at mid to high end cards these days since everything must run smoothly at max detail. IF your budget concious then you take what you can get sadly.

hey daar cyberduke

:)

Nvidia geforce 8400gs (512mb Same card)
2,5 Gb RAM ( 2 GB ram)
Windows xp 32bit ( same OS)

As you can see my pc meets the minimum specs required to run the games and in some cases even the recommended specs please any help appreciated.

Cyberduke wrote:O sorry for all this short posts but 'n just want to know if the value of the model number is higher is it a better card? eg: a 56xx is better than a 55xx? And is it the same with nvidia's cards?

geniet. :D

Jap dit antwoord amper al my vrae. Ek weet vir 'n feit my screen is 'n flat screen 19 inch groot. Ek weet ook my kaart is definitief pci-e.

Hmm. Kyk bietjie na 'n Nvidia 240GT of GS of so iets.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... sing_units

Check out landmarkpc.co.za prices too when making a choice.
They are also an online SA shop - you just might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks I will check landmarkpc.co.za. And that geforce gt 240 looks nice on prophecy. But does it has a vga output? my screen only has a vga and a dvi-d input. I still have to convince my parents to buy online. They are afraid they will be scamed.

ps. We live far from a decent pc shop. (4 Hours drive) The only one here is very expensive.
