You have to love some quick fixes from users.

Q: I have no sound. How do I fix this?
A: You have a high end sound card with 7.1. Please turn it down to 5.1 or lower (xonar dx set to 6 channels, not 8. Same with G35 headsets)

And as for the disc in drive it seems to be the first launch only.

I'm not sure if SLI is supported by the game but max detail my game frameskips like mad. Gonna try lowering the shadows and LOD distance.

Ok didn't take too long. Short guide for starting the game:

1 - Sound set to 5.1 or lower (channels 6 or less depending on app)
2 - Disc in drive for first launch
3 - DISABLE UBERSAMPLING IN VIDEO AND AUDIO CONFIG

Hopefully this will give the rest of you a slightly less bumpy start with the game.

Thank you rusty :). Your install folder is at least half of what Steam needs to download! The size of the Steam install is 16,206.3 MB and thanks to your folder I am currently sitting on ~ 6,888.2 MB. The only problem is that Steam is friggin slow when it comes to download speeds sitting at ~ 10kb and on a 384k Uncapped, Unshaped line that is not right... :(

/starts counting the weeks...

//maybe I need to phone Mweb and get the package upgraded to 1MB Uncapped, Unshaped...

takes some getting used to , but i'm fine with it... the preview approach is certainly preferable to that in TW1..

certainly doesn't add anything to the game... the forums, however, are flooded with testosterone victims raving about something which has been clogging the internets' pipes since inception....

Retail version is 14gb in size. It comes on 2 dvds.

My first thought on seeing Triss was if it was on console she would already have the towl on or dressed except for the boots. Shows what pc games can do when its only a million or 2 vs 25million americans. BTW how do I switch targets? The tutorial flies by very fast.

So it seems I am finally near the end of chapter 1. The combat in this game is hard. Taking on 2-3 weak enemies are easy to okish. I've found that you need to mind control the tough enemies if you want to survive. But I have a few complaints when it comes to the quests and quest descriptions.
Spoiler: (show)
For instance the quest with the nekker nests you need a grapeshot bomb to destroy them but they don't mention it anywhere. And there are so many bombs but if it isnt the right one then it won't help you. And as for the combat difficulty you need to mind control the wraiths in the mental hospital and let them 1v1 themselves else there is nearly no way to kill them.
I feel like a new game these days should show somewhat of a tutorial as to how to do stuff like how to drink potions, how to make potions, ect. I had to go back to the manual to find out how to make a potion for one of the bosses. Infact I am going to take on that boss in a few minutes again because it isnt apparent how to get to it after you pinned it down.

So my gripe with the game atm is that its not telling you enough but its more of an RPG than most of the rpg titles coming out today.

No idea how my line did it but it managed to download 6-7GB in 3 days on my 384k line. :) Game finished main download at about 13:40 then Steam told me it had to download another 270MB patch to which details are hard to find. At 16:30 (had to watch F1 first :P) I was playing the game. :)

First time in a long time that a game has pushed my machine this hard, now I really need to upgrade. Loving the game at the moment, cant get used to this combat system keep wanting to time my mouse clicks :?. Do not like the finicky looting system :(. Some items I was unable to select because they were to close to a door or torch which kept on taking priority over the looting. :(

Cant wait to get home to play more! :D

Decided to see what score Witcher 2 is sitting at on Metacritic and saw this little gem:
Cuco
0
Really bad game. They should learn with Bioware with Mass Effect and Dragon Age how to make a real RPG. The story is boring, the caracters are really ugly, Geralt is not as awesome and cute as Hawke. And Isabella is simply better than that Triss. Besides the dialogue wheel is way better than anything on the Witcher.
*shakes head*

I am really getting overwhelmed in some of the choices I could do and have found myself running around without wanting to progress just to loot some more :P. Also had the game crash on me :(.

When I first started the game and had the interrogation room selections I selected something about a Dragon and boy was that the wrong way to start the game! kept on being burnt alive whilst fighting the guards . Now however I stuck between moving on a main quest or attempting a side quest without the proper sword because it will apparently take 24 hours to make. I reckon I will go main quest...

I spent so long looking for silver ore to craft my silver sword, without realising I could just buy it from the traders rather than search for it, lol. Now, somehow, I've lost my steel sword, ARG!

I do feel rather inundated with quests ATM and am losing track of the main quest - thank goodness for the walkthrough!

Well ofcoarse they have the right to be pissed rusty. I mean a billion dollar company got its ars handed ...ploughed by a studio who only has the pc gamer and a much smaller budget to work with that released a game far more detailed than anything bioware has released in the past few years.

You level at a steady pace. But once you have a proper weapon you could start beating things easily. But might replay going alchemist or magic next play thru.

I chose Rouche this time around. Next I will go with the elf.

New patch incoming, with some haircut DLC...
I am almost finished my second playthrough. Hopefully the Steam folks will have less to download this time around.

my only downside is it crashes like mad - straight to desktop , no error report or anything...checking out on forums, ppl say its got something to do with 2GB limitations from windows, so yea...i'll wait & c,hopefully it'll stop crashing after 1.2 :( cuz i wanna see more b   bies.
