It's a good exercise in dealing with change people so deal

Re: New forum style!
I dealt with change the whole morning- 1st through 6th gear, up and down, all the way to Cullinan and back
I find it takes a second or so for me to filter out non-relevant text, such as sigs, topic subjects and dates. It makes the reading a tad more lengthy, but it's no train smash.

If I may be as bold as to request that the signature size rule also get a change? I can understand giant sigs such as all of yours and a large layout. On a narrow one it really looks bad.
It also defeats the point to have a sig bigger than your post.

Okay, so it seems I've underestimated the power of peripheral vision. I'm now perfectly fine with the avatars on the right. No more Manga.

OK, let me reply to all the comments here:
If you compare the main PCF website with the forums, you'll see why this was done.GreyWolf wrote:I have likes and dislikes, but even the things I do not like I can see the logic behind, except for the narrow layout. Was this by choice or is it something that's part of the back end and cannot be changed?
This was a close call - however, we found that having the avatars on the right placed more emphasis on the post content rather than the poster, and since we actually ended up liking that, it stayed.D3PART3D wrote:Complaint: We read from left to right. Well, we do have sig size rules which, with a fixed layout, is now easier for us to get right.Siemens wrote:If I may be as bold as to request that the signature size rule also get a change? I can understand giant sigs such as all of yours and a large layout. On a narrow one it really looks bad.

Re: New forum style!
My Only crits are:
1) logging onto the forum for the first time since the change, I thought the style sheet was broken. It still looks very PHP3 ish at first glance.
2) Any chance members can have an option to change the width in the UCP, please?

Re: New forum style!
I think its great, a bit of a fresh look. forums were getting a bit "much of the same", so logging in today was a welcome surprise.
Emoticons look a bit dated though. aren't there better looking ones available ?

Re: New forum style!
The template engine isn't that advanced - sorry. (It would be really nice to have though - if enough people are interested, I can log a feature request for future versions, but this would be a major feature that would take a while to be implemented, if at all.)Prime wrote:Any chance members can have an option to change the width in the UCP, please?
There have been newer ones out in the wild for some time now. I just haven't bothered about them, as no-one's complained about them... well, until now.Mclaren wrote:Emoticons look a bit dated though. aren't there better looking ones available ?

Re: New forum style!
So now you have two new things to think about
Re: New forum style!
Please just not larger emoticons that are going to throw all the posts out of whack. And not those horrible, default, rugby ball shaped things.Ron2K wrote:There have been newer ones out in the wild for some time now. I actually like the rugby ball shaped things - tell you what, I'll stick a poll up this evening so that everyone can decide.

At least make the sigs a bit less in the height. All of our sigs look bad.

Wait, wut? I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the space for your sigs? Not the actual sig images?Siemens wrote:At least make the sigs a bit less in the height. All of our sigs look bad.

You can turn sigs off in the UCP if that tickles your pickle.Siemens wrote:or better yet, remove the sigs.

Re: New forum style!
Ron, I suspect he's referring to the fact that the line for sigs starts quite high up. If you have a single line post, then the poster information on the right can potentially be bigger than your actual post. So he's asking that it somehow be set that the dividing line between post and sig start a bit lower.Ron2K wrote:You can turn sigs off in the UCP if that tickles your pickle.Siemens wrote:or better yet, remove the sigs.
Not sure that that's going to happen though.
Re: New forum style!
I don't like the change, the previous look and feel was better.

Ah, right: he's asking for me to set a min-height. Will fiddle with the CSS then and see what I can do.Stuart wrote:Ron, I suspect he's referring to the fact that the line for sigs starts quite high up. Isn't that what I just said.

Re: New forum style!
That is what he just said - but I think what Siemens meant was that you make the rules for sigs smaller - more in line with his size. He was perhaps complaining about sig height and not allocated space in the post box

Well we should have a vote on the theme...because I hate it, I read from left to right and this Arabic theme is not normal, unless of course you are Arabic.....or give members the option to choose which theme to use....
