Hi guys.
My dad asked me to find out what is the best 3G network for overseas travelling. ie. Vodacom , Cell C , MTN, 8ta.
would they all have overseas coverage..
if none have then would their dongles be supported internationally?
His going to Spain for 3 weeks from the 18 April.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
PS.
i am kind of hoping for the Cell C. then i could hijack it when he gets back

Re: which 3G dongle for overseas?
much of a muchness as you will be using other networks... (as long as he remembers to activate roaming)...
i've found vodacom to be reliable most everywhere, (UK/US/switzerland/spain), except Aussie where i had to manually switch to telstra because vodafone couldn't maintain a data connection, (both BB and 3G modem)...
i would say check which networks his provider deals with there and what their data bundles are... the worst i've seen to date is china, which tears us a new one whenever we visit.. spain wasn't too bad on vodacom...

He'd be better using a hotspot or internet cafe. When you start using 3g on roaming, it gets horrendously expensive.
That said, for Europe, Vodacom should be better.

Ok thanks guys.
Thats good news for him i guess.
his on Blackberry with vodacom.
So i guess he will just buy a vodacom dongle and use his phone sim. which will charge his company for the useage
if they allow it.
else he can just use a pre-paid method or something.
Awesome.
you guys rock.

Re: which 3G dongle for overseas?
You're doing it wrong!
Your dad has a blackbery. You don't need a dongle. You are welcome to activate his blackberries sim for roaming which is also a bad idea because of the costs. I'm not telling you what they are. Go shock yourself on Vodacoms site.
So leave the dongle and when he gets to spain, get a local simcard with airtime. I travel every month and have a collection of simcards. It's the only way.

yes but his not a technical person...
he doesn't understand how to use his BB as a modem.
his traveling with a laptop and wants internet.
i know he could browse on his BB for free... but his not into the small screen browsing.
he basically just uses his BB for emails.. and he prefers the old nokia 3310's because they were simple.
his only got a BB because his work pays for it...
