Your Favourite GPU/GFX card

Post by StarBound »

Because we have a CPU thread I might aswell put one up for graphics :P

Voodoo 2. From slow blocky low res gameplay to 800x600 with lighting, smooth textures, incredible speed going from software to hardware 3d accelerated rendering was one of the best moments in my gaming history.

GeForce 7950GX2. Favourite card that I've ever owned - brilliant in its day.

Eish, hard one that. I'd probably have to go with my original Voodoo 12MB 3D card. When that came out, it was at the time insanely fast compared to the competition.

My Gigabyte Riva TNT 2 Turbo was also one of my favourites.

My 9700 Pro rocked when I got it, was a massive step up from the 9200 I had previously.

I had a Radeon 9200 as well. Arguably the most disappointing card I've had.

Yeah, had that jumper that you removed to hit "Turbo" mode. Overclocked speeds under warranty. :D

XFX 6800 256Mb XT still have it.
The most fun I had with my clothes on, has to be a Savage card.... was just awesome

This is what I had
Savage
TNT 2
Geforce MX 440se PCI (Annoying lack of pixel shader) Still have it
FX 5200 (still have it) Gigabyte
FX 5700 Leadtek
Geforce 6200 Gigabyte
Geforce 6600 GTS AGP Gigabyte
Geforce 6600 GT PCI -e Gigabyte
Geforce 6800 XT (still have it) XFX
Gefroce 7600 GT (died a few weeks ago) Gigabyte
Geforce 8600 GT (still have it) Gigabyte
Geforce 8800 GT (really awesome card) XFX
ATI 4650 ( not too shabby) Sapphire

Of all the cards I must say the 6 series were the best and the 4 series the worst.
For now I am skipping a few generations, till the next windows RTM

Only ever had a few cards:

On the first system I had an SIS 620 8MB onboard GFX, which I played Carmageddon: Carpocalypse, MDK and NFS II with. It was completely outshone by a friend's 4MB PCi GFX card.

Then I borrowed a Geforce 2 64MB from a friend, which I used with my Celeron 2.4GHz single core. Yeah, it was better than onboard, but still pretty useless, especially with that CPU.

Next was a Sparkle 7100GS 256MB. Probably the most pathetic card I have owned. Didn't know much of anything when I bought that. I bought it based on it being a "256MB card". :)

Then got an Asus 8600GTS 256MB with passive cooling. HUGE step up from the previous card, but it was already pretty old when I got it.

I got my Force 3D 4850 1GB at the end of August 2009, but it was strangled by my puny AMD 64 3500+ single core at first. After a while a lot of performance was unlocked when I upgraded to a 5200+ X2, but it only really showed its true potential with this system, which I got end of April 2010. I can still play most games at max settings with it and it must be my favourite card to date.

If I had to vote for a best of all time card though, it must be the 8800 GT 512MB, which still gives performance very close to my current card!
