At 5pm EST Friday 22nd October 2010 WikiLeaks released the largest classified military leak in history. The 391,832 reports ('The Iraq War Logs'), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. Each is a 'SIGACT' or Significant Action in the war. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.
The reports detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 'civilians'; 23,984 'enemy' (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 'host nation' (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 'friendly' (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these are civilian deaths. That is 31 civilians dying every day during the six year period. For comparison, the 'Afghan War Diaries', previously released by WikiLeaks, covering the same period, detail the deaths of some 20,000 people. Iraq during the same period, was five times as lethal with equivalent population size.

Australia claims Wikileaks is illegal
Written by Nick Farrell
Will probably be blacklisted in the future
Australians may not be allowed to see the Wikileaks site in the future.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard says the leaking of classified documents via the WikiLeaks website is "illegal". The Australian Federal Police are investigating whether WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange's publication of secret US cables breaches any local laws.
However Gillard told Fairfax Radio she was receiving briefings on the Australian security officials' assessment of the documents. She slammed the placement of this information on the WikiLeaks website claiming that it's a grossly irresponsible and an illegal thing to do.
Legal experts say there are a number of jurisdictional problems with prosecuting the publisher, including the fact the documents are American in origin and that the website is based in Europe. However Australia is planning to filter the web of “illegal content” in the future as part of its “great rabbit proof fence” filters.
If Wikileaks is what the government considers “illegal” then it is fair to assume it will be censored in the future.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested in Britain
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange handed himself in to British police on Tuesday after Sweden issued a warrant for his arrest over allegations of sex crimes, London's Metropolitan Police said.
Assange, whose WikiLeaks website is at the center of a row over the release of secret U.S. diplomatic cables, was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant.
Swedish prosecutors want to question the 39-year-old Australian about allegations of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion. He denies the allegations.
Assange is due to appear before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in London later on Tuesday when a date for an extradition hearing is likely to be set. This must take place within 21 days of his arrest.
"He is accused by the Swedish authorities of one count of unlawful coercion, two counts of sexual molestation and one count of rape, all alleged to have been committed in August 2010," London police said in a statement.
Assange has spent much of his time in Sweden and earlier this year was accused of sexual misconduct by two female Swedish WikiLeaks volunteers.
This led Swedish prosecutors to open, then drop, then re-open an investigation into the allegations. The crime he is suspected of is the least severe of three categories of rape, carrying a maximum of four years in jail.
Police said Assange was arrested by officers from its extradition unit at about 9.30 a.m. (0930 GMT) after he appeared by appointment at a London police station.
His whereabouts had been previously undisclosed.
If a judge is satisfied his extradition is warranted and will not breach his human rights, then he will order the WikiLeaks founder to be extradited, although Assange can appeal against that decision to higher courts.
Assange's Swedish lawyer has said his client would fight any extradition and believed foreign powers were influencing Sweden.
WikiLeaks has angered the U.S. government and others across the world by releasing details of 250,000 diplomatic cables it had obtained.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

If I'm not mistaken it also stated that Morgan is working for the US to keep an eye on Robert.

4chan rushes to WikiLeaks' defense, forces Swiss banking site offline
By Peter Bright | Last updated about 2 hours ago
The forces of Anonymous have taken aim at several companies who are refusing to do business with WikiLeaks. 4chan's hordes have launched distributed denial-of-service attacks against PayPal, Swiss bank PostFinance, and other sites that have hindered the whistleblowing site's operations.
A self-styled spokesman for the group calling himself "Coldblood" has said that any website that's "bowing down to government pressure" is a target. PayPal ceased processing donations to the site, and PostFinance froze WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's account. The attacks are being performed under the Operation: Payback banner; Operation: Payback is the name the group is using in its long-running attacks on the RIAA, MPAA, and other organizations involved with anti-piracy lawsuits.

If governments had to stop censoring all this "classified" transmissions, there would have to be more transparency!
otherwise, what is the point of a democratic government?
