Why all the closures?

Rumours are floating around that UK-based Bizarre Creations, who are known for their work in the racing genre of games, faces closure. If this is the case all 200 of the current staff will find their jobs in jeopardy. Following reports of the rumours online Activision issued a statement on the state of the studio

The total gaming market is what? 20-25million people? Not everyone likes shooters, racing games, strategy ect and then companies close when sales dont hit the 1 million mark?

Something is wrong in the industry. Either a cost model or a pricing model. Sales lost due to piracy? Sales lost to second hand sellers due to pricing? Sales lost due to buyer income? Sales lost due to the game being crap?

Maybe all the people who play racing games are growing up, getting drivers license, buying cars...

Maybe this will rub off on nimrods who buy games like guitar hero and have never touched a real musical instrument.
