Office Activation Troubles

Post by Prime »

I'm trying to get Office Home and Student setup on a laptop for someone. She's bought a licence but it won't accept the key

No matter what I do, it keeps telling me the key is invalid. It had a trial version of office on it which I've removed. I've deleted all the old Office files, I've gone through the registry. It just keeps telling me the key is incorrect. :(

Can someone help me?

Can't recall ever having problems with the serial before. By which avenue did you contact them? Have you tried THIS page?

I'm pretty stumped too. I don't want to format and reinstall windows because I don't know if the key will work with my own disks. It's a Sony Viao Laptop.

Well it's a genuine key. So unless i some how got a one that is faulty?

In the About tab (here), so it won't help you. You can choose not to supply it though. It is only so they know if the call will be free or not.

What OS and service pack is it running on? (Or did I miss that somewhere in the post?) Seems Office 2007 won't install if you have anything less than XP with SP2.

Rusty, what's your installer called?

Despite downloading it from the MS website, it still says Professional Hybrid when I run it. :?

no idea... installed on some machines down the coast... but was definitely grabbed from the same place...
<edit>
be aware that, every so often, they issue a duffed license... which is when you end up going through the phone/provide proof-of-purchase/etc routine.... every time...

See my activation saga with Office 2010 from here onwards. In the end, MS reversed the cancelled my purchase without me asking them to do so, so eventually I just bought the physical DVD.

Its the wrong frikking installer, again!

The irony is I found the link to the correct installer on the PirateBay  Now waiting for it to download

Edit: And it Works.

I know these bypass the signup which is not strictly legal (you still need a valid key to install them) but this should save someone else the hairpulling:

Here is the link to download office 2007 enterprise direct from microsoft without having to complete that annoying sign up thing:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... rprise.exe

Well to Microsoft's credit, they've taken down my key and are investigating why their site is downloading the wrong versions.

Is there a thread for rating customer service?
