DVD drive not visible in XP

Post by Rusticz »

Hi there,

I need some help please. I can not see my dvd drive in XP. I checked under manage > Disc Management and only the hard drive is visible.
In "My Computer" I also cant see the drive.
It does however show in the BIOS. I installed a different drive, but with same results.

I also ran a small program CDgone, but this also didnt help. All the cables are connected correctly, the drive opens and close etc not problem.

I dont have the drivers discs for either of the two drives. I looked all over the internet for the LG L22 drivers, but this also came up empty handed.

The drive works fine in another XP machine.

I hope somebody can help.

Thanks.

Is it an IDE drive?

Try this:

1. Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

2. Delete "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"keys in right-side pane. (Sometimes only one is there.)

3. Restart the system and now you should have access to your optical drives.

Both, there is actually two dvd drives installed, SATA and IDE. Not one of the two is picked up by XP.

Elo Stuart, I opened Regedit and found my way to {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, but cant find the "upperfilters" or "lowerfilters" entry. All I get is Default, Class etc.... up to Troubleshooter-0

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager

See if they're showing up there, and if they do, remove them and reboot.

Has the problem been sorted out? I'm posting a bit late haha. Is there maybe a conflict in the drive letters?

Possibly a service pack issue I would say.
