Seriously there aren't a lot of IT companies in SA that will do this to start off with. You will be better of, if you already have a general knowledge, to fake it and then get the experience.

I'll say that a great number of IT guys started by faking it. I know I did.RuadRauFlessa wrote:if you already have a general knowledge, to fake it and then get the experience.
I knew just enough in the NT4 days to pull it off.

Re: I.T company career research
I wouldn't imagine a whole company wouldn't be keen to do that. They will probably just pay next to nothing which will just waste your own time.
What exactly are you looking to do? Technical, development, design?

Re: I.T company career research
well i tried to do the same as you are tryna do..contacted a bunch of companies but all wanted "real" experience( i.e u worked previously at another place, fixing and working on friends/family/whateva doesnt seem to count) and a qualification (A+, N+ etc ect)...so ya, eventually got other jobs and started an A+ correspondence course...still doing the course, but was luckily enough to end up where im working now( even though its logistics, our branch's tech department got done away with, so if it minor issues i get a first look at them before we send it to JHB)..so ya, just keep trying man, find out by companies, email them, phone whateva, it doesnt hurt to try and if you still dont come right try doing a course just to get the qualifiction even if you get another job in the meantime.

Well if you don't want to wing it and still want to know nothing go to varsity. They will teach you everything about outdated technologies you will not be working with and when you get a job you will have to wing it in any case. Good luck.

Personally I'd employ someone with 2 years experience and no degree rather than someone with a fresh degree and no experience.

Re: I.T company career research
Not much of a chance of that I'm afraid. Get your CCNA then you might get that kind of money with no previous work experience.

Even with CCNA you will be hard pressed to get that without any work experience.

Re: I.T company career research
CBT Nuggets are great, but that alone won't get you through the exams(well not the Cisco ones I watched). You will still need to have some practical experience or will have to study hard from the books.

Re: I.T company career research

Re: I.T company career research
Yeah MCSE has now been replaced by MCITP because of Server 2008. Most companies in SA still have a huge amount of 2003 servers though, but I suspect that number will decrease as the end of support approaches. Best bet if you're paying for this out of your own pocket is to learn all the Server 2003 stuff yourself, and certify in the Server 2008 stuff, like MCTS or MCITP.
