As for my reply to mike:
Just open the hardware price list of most reputable dealers and get the most expensive components available.
9/10 times that will be what I would get.

Haha ja I was just keen to see your responses. Anything interesting besides mac?

not exactly... you can run windows on it(needless to say, not the greatest idea, but its a possibility) and his post was for an intel/amd machine, and that is an intel machine...Sojourn wrote: Your post could be seen as an off-topic hijack.
the mod is right, thats the gfx cards what the mac pro comes with(at least its one of the options)

Re: Your dream machine- Please share
I have my dream machine right now, actually. I bought it almost a year ago, and it was a BEAST when I got it. It still plays everything I want at full res/max settings, so I'm totally happy.
i7 965XE
Rampage II Extreme
GTX295
12GB Corsair Dominators
The rest isn't important.
These days, I really don't care about hardware that much. As long as it LOOKS good, I'm happy.

That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

Same here. i7 980, 3x GTX 480's and then the highest end components you get for everything else and that's more or less my dream machine...Sojourn wrote:Just open the hardware price list of most reputable dealers and get the most expensive components available.

My current PC is pretty much my dream machine though. Cost me a fortune now but worth every penny...

Re: Your dream machine- Please share
My dream machine would set me back only R12k, give or take. Not much, I know. At this stage of the fight I'm more interested in my bike. I'd settle for:
MSi 890FXA-GD70
4GB OCZ Reaper DDR1600 7-7-7-24 (or 8-8-8-24, Sybaritic are apparently posting two different sets of timing)
Gigabyte Odin 585
Radeon 5870 (pick one, I really don't care)
Samsung XL2370 (Unless there's a 27" version, then I want that one)
Coolermaster CM 690
I already have the Phenom2 X4 965, Z2300's and Creative GD580 speakers.
I don't really play games anymore, It's just that when I do attend the odd lan once every three months, I don't want to sukkel.

Re: Your dream machine- Please share
Why?
As far as I'm aware (and I'm aware I might be totally wrong here) there is no Asus board that has what this board offers. Small things like the dual gigabit, which my current board has, that the new boards doesn't have.
Also, I don't like Asus

Re: Your dream machine- Please share
For the bedroom PC, the fastest components can can be passively cooled (yeah, water cooling with a big fanless radiator would work too - I guess) and the best, most reliable passively cooled PSU. I wouldn't mind a case fan or two that would spin QUIETLY at, say 60RPM. 12GB RAM(Hey DJV, have you modded a PSU to be cooled passively yet?)
Gaming PC - Eyefinity 9, who cares about noise!!! Intel or AMD: the upper echelons of gaming are GPU bound, not CPU bound. 12GB RAM
Development PC 0 - Silent PC with an exception made for Eyefinity 6 with a dual or quad socket motherboard, Intel CPUs with HT. Mechanical keyboard. Maximum supported RAM on the board.
Development PC 1 - Silent PC with an exception made for Eyefinity 6 with a dual or quad socket motherboard, AMD Bulldozer CPUs with "Strong" Multithreading. Mechanical keyboard. Maximum supported RAM on the board.
HTPC - the puniest, tiniest, quietest, nicest looking case that DJV can make right now. Passively cooled AMD card. CPU? Dunno. Guess a passively cooled i5 untill Bobcat is released. Maximum supported RAM on the board.
All have 2TB SSDs etc.

Re: Your dream machine- Please share
Why would you want 12GB of RAM unless you're into hardcore graphic or 3D design or serious encoding/compiling that would utilise it all? On current games (and those to come for at least another few years) using 12GB of RAM has no positive impact, and in fact scores lower than rigs with 6GB...

Because it's about bragging rights
Which is why I'm sticking to
I know that I don't use my pc to it's potential as it is currently.

The thing is when money is no object you go for things you would never have considered simply because you can. Why hunt doves with a BB gun when your allowed to use a .50?

Starbound, well said. Can I put that in my sig?
Re: Your dream machine- Please share
So that I don't have to upgrade it later.
How does that saying go again, "Anything above 60FPS one won't be able to see a difference?" Although with 120/200Hz screens, it might be, "Anything over 120/200FPS..."
