@Stuart - thanks for reply,but where do I find them(drivers)?

@KALSTER - it's a MSI P45 C51

I discovered that if I plug the headphones into the speakers instead of the front of the tower(works in XP) then I have sound,but the cord is too short so I have to sit hunched over my desk and very close to the screen,I suppose I could get new headphones.

By Windows 7 and XP on your computer I am guessing you are dual booting?

Take the speakers out of the equation and just plug the headphones into the back of your computer, in the green audio jack and test it in both Operating systems, then get back to us.

Drivers can be found on the internet or more specifically on the manufacturers website. You need to download and install them for your hardware to work correctly. Make sure you get the correct version for your OS.
