Hi Guys,
In need of some help.
My boss here at work has a portable drive that got infected with some autorun virus he says. He cleaned it himself and it seems it's gone. But it may have left some other things behind and he never got the name for the virus.
When he plugs in his drive and opens explorer and click on the drive no folders or files show in the right pane. When he goes to "Start" "Run" and enters e:\private (where private is a folder on the hard drive in question) it opens the folder and he can access all his data. And this works for any other folder on the drive.
He just can't see the drive tree in explorer. It's as if the drive is empty, but there are things on it.
How do you get the folders to display again?
I tried the hidden folders options but nothing.

Thanks man. But he can see the drive in explorer, it's just that when he clicks on the drive, in the right hand pane the folders don't show up.doo_much wrote:Try following this in reverse...

Re: Folders not displaying...???
back up the data on the drive after running a virus scan on it, then format the drive

Sounds like a notorious virus that seems to commonly infect public computers.
I think it's called the rEcYcLer virus or something. It seems to only infect removable drives
If I remember, it puts an autorun.inf on the disk, then hides all folders and creates *.exe files with the same name.

You can create superhidden files/folders with a desktop.ini file I believe. See if you can find and delete this file.
Apparently Internet Explorer uses this technique when storing its backup copy of your history. Your history is never cleared if you use IE. You just think it is. And you can't see it even if you show hidden files.
