IPCONFIG is farked

Post by UrBaN »

Hey Guys,

So, a girl arrived from the states and wants to connect to my wireless network.

I've given her the correct gateway, IP etc - that is all fine.

However, there is no internet access, nor network access.

I ran IPCONFIG to check what's what and it returns this,

Code: Select all

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Project>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: The request is not supported.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.

Additional information: Unable to query host name.

C:\Documents and Settings\Project>IPCONFIG /ALL

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: The request is not supported.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.

Additional information: Unable to query host name.

been awhile since I worked on XP :P

Looking for a solution...

*edit*
This command is available only if the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol is installed as a component in the properties of a network adapter in Network Connections
Make sure that %SystemRoot%system32 is in your environment variables path. Also make sure that the file
ipconfig.exe is located in the system32 directory. If not you can copy it and the other ipconfig.* files from a different xp machine.

I didn't actually mean to post that yet, I wasn't finished typing it out...eish.

Anyway, I fixed it.

Went to Device Damager, VIEW>SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES

NON-PLAY&PLAY DEVICES

Saw numerous items with exclamations next to them. Removed them.

Reinstalled the network adaptors and drivers.

Copied the following three files from another XP Box to this one (got that idea from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dhcp.htm)

It works now. Sweeeeeeeeeeet.
