Wireless Network help...

Post by BeoTeK »

Hi guys, new to the forum but not the magazine.

Wonder if someone could share some knowledge on this problem I'm experience in the workplace.

I have 2x DLINK DWL-2100AP's and 2x MikroTiK antennaes plugged into them. (one each side (obviously)) :)
I have the two setup on 192.168.0.50 & 51 accordingly.
Setup WDSwithAP mode.
Linked the two via MAC address.
Direct line of sight.
Good signal strength from the two on either side.

Yet the strange part is they don't seem to be 'linked' like I have them on other sites. I cannot communicate through them.
ie. I cannot ping 192.168.0.51 through 192.168.0.50 unless I connect to that specific AP.

It's also woth noting that they are on different Firmware versions (I will get around to updating them soon, but I don;t think that's the problem).
version 2.50eu & 2.40eu
But on the sites I can only find the latest firmware being 2.10 (without the eu).

Thanks.

Here is the link to the SA Dlink Support FTP site

ftp://ftp.dlinktech.co.za/support/dwl2100ap/

I see it has the Firmware there... Try that and see if it helps..

Edit: I have found that a lot of Dlink products to be horribly unstable until it has had a firmware update....
Cooler Master RC-690 CM 690
Intel Core i7 950 3.06 GHz
MSI R5870

Corsair DDR3-1600 6GB DOMINATOR

Well, it's up and running like a dream! Updated the firmware on both. Reset to factory defaults and configured again.

Strange thing though, even though it offers WDS and WDS with AP. It doesn't seem to link with the latter, in other words it just like an AP. Stupid things!

But none-the-less it's working.

Urah!

Btw, thnks garp ;)
