Win7 x64 Problems!

Hi

I upgraded my PC to win7 x64 this past weekend. After that my Intellitype Pro Software for my Natural Ergonomic Desktop 4000 keyboard does not want to recognise the volume keys on the keyboard. Also AVG did not want to install. I am now running avast as anti-virus. I am also having problems with my Delphi 7 setup. Could it be that there is still problems with x64 not supporting some x86 software?

I have been using Win 7 x64 for the past year and a bit, and have run into very few problems. The ones that I have run into, are almost always driver related.

And I have used AVG, so I know that should work.

Your keyboard is more than likely driver related. Have you maybe tried Windows Update to look for an updated driver?

Doing a quick google on "Delphi 7 + Windows 7" found this. Have you tried to do any troubleshooting before posting here? ( I have to ask )

I've been using win7 (32bit) since the early beta stages. I think my problem is related to access control - stuff not being in the correct directory. I think the culprit may be the Program Files / Program Files (x86) directories. But I cannot find a workaround!

Do a clean reinstall, find the x64 bit versions of the programs you use

OK so I am back to the beginning - Is there any reason to go with x64 at the moment (bear in mind the main role of my PC is software development with Delphi 7)? I have 2 gigs RAM and will like to upgrade that to 4 gig ASAP.

unless you have 4gigs of ram, not really.

There are programs that benefit from 64bit, such as encoding programs, compression programs and such

I've found 2 possible solutions:

start->control panel -> hardware and sound -> manage audio devices:

choose the playback device (in my case the device is "speakers") and click properties,

navigate to "advanced" tab,

uncheck the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"

confirm with "Apply".

now try to turn the volume rocker.

If installing the drivers etc. doesn't fix your issue try this. Go to Run and type in Services.msc. Scroll down to Human Interface Device Access, right click and choose Properties. Change the Start Up type to Automatic. Click OK, close all windows and reboot. This should fix your problem.

Thanx Blade! Nr 2 did the trick! (I did not reboot yet, just started the Humand Interface Device Access manually and now it works! So now I am going to set it to automatic and see!
