Anomolous line speed

Post by StarPhoenix »

After I had switched over to my WebAfrica account this evening to take advantage of the Portal special on STEAM,
I noticed something odd about my line speed:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I have a 384k line

Do you think that something is the matter with my adsl router or that the glitch exists with however happens to be controlling my line at the moment?
[WebAfrica are taking it over from Telkom]

Well it seems that you had a free upgrade on your line. When the router rebooted it synced at the new faster rate. It should be the same even after you swapped back to a Telkom account.

Edit//
The line speed it set on the hardware of the DSLAM, it it wont have anything to do with the account.

Maybe.......I have logged a ticket over at my webafrica account

I don't want to find that I have been charged for a 4Mb line.

I'll check again tomorrow after I have pinched myself.

*BUMP

Update:

Hi there

Here is the story:

I went to my local Telkom Direct store this morning and made a point of speaking to the most helpful person there.
Telkom is testing the inpact of boosting line speed in my area. I happen to be one of the guinea pigs.

Test it I shall! :-)

There's a glitch in Telkom's system.

According to my invoice, they are charging me R1.39 for telephone line rental.
I wonder whether they will honour that?
I'll find out when I query it tomorrow morning.

My line is still running at 4Mbps, by the way...but my router is acting funny.

I went to our local Telkom Direct shop on Thursday, only to find their doors closed to to the strike. I'm not quite sure which strike that is. I've lost track.

According to Telkom, they charged me too much last month [when I switched to Web Africa]
The upshot of this is that I get to pay nada this month.
