AMD Atholn II x2 250 overclocking

Post by Hellfury »

Hey guys, long time

I bought a cheap sytem recently as a fun exercise to see how much i can milk it. The specs are as follows : AMD Athlon II x2 250 (3.0ghz), 2gb DDR2 800 RAM, Biostar Gf 8200 mobo, 250gb seagate sata2 hdd, an old 6600gt, a samsung sata dvd writer, a 500w generic psu. OS is windows 7 ultimate x64

I know it's nothing special but yeah

I'd like some general advice on milking it

I can get the CPU up to 3.6ghz, but CPUZ reports it as like 900mhz and says the multiplier as 4???? Speccy gives the same result

The correct speed is reported when i boot and speedfan also reports it correctly. I'm confuzzled :|

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks an advance, Justin

900mhz (bus speed) * 4 (multi) = 3600mhz :)

Must be the power saving downclocking at work. Try disabling AMD Cool-and-quiet in the BIOS.

managed to quell it by changing my power plan. CPU running at 3.75Ghz now. stock cooling. 35 degrees under full load
