Your fave survival horror flicks

Post by Jonboy »

So we're having a movie marathon this weekend, theme - survival horror.

A few of my favourites are:
  • I am Legend,
    Resident Evil (1),
    Shaun of the Dead

Before I finalise the list we're going to watch though, I thought I'd see what other members here enjoyed. I heard Event Horizon is possibly the scariest thing ever, but nobody has stock of the thing and the guppies that work at my local Blockbuster's don't have a clue what I'm on about. Will be interesting to see what comes up.

Dawn Of The Dead - the 2004 remake with Ving Rhames.

The 1978 original is a classic, but I enjoyed the new version more.

Looking good. Definately get Event Horizon. I tried to get my gf to watch and she couldn't make it past the part where the doctor sees her child in the medlab. I found 28 weeks later better than 28 days later.

Event Horizon is an awesome horror, I own the collectors edition, hehe. 28 days later had more of an eerie feel to it, than 28 weeks later, which felt a bit more actiony. But both are top notch imo. If you want a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you HAVE to watch Switchblade Romance, by Alexandra Aja. Same Director who brought us, The hills have eyes remake and Mirrors. Sadly, its a french film and they won't have a copy in the DVD store. Evil Dead 1 and 2 are cult classics, but also will be hard to find. Demon Knight is a very cool survival horror aswell. Any Romero Zombie film will be a good choice, if you dont mind a bit of old school(Day of the Dead ROCKs!) but then there is always Land of the dead, or the Zack Snyder remake Dawn of the Dead......I love Horror movies.

Land of the dead was alright, dawn of the dead lacked something. Maybe I need to watch it with surround sound and the lights off. :?

Resident evil 1 through 3 were Disappointing.

LOL, true, but that happens in Evil Dead 2, the 3rd is more of a comedy but still a classic. Some really cool scenes.
I have Brain Damage on my wish list of Horror dvds to get. Heard it's quite a fun horror.
The Halloween remake by Rob Zombie was alright, the first half I felt was better than the 2nd half as that becomes a hack and slash through and through....not that I'm complaining, lol, but some suspense thrown in is always nice.....Halloween 2 is a pure gore fest....buuuut not that gory in my books....watch Braindead if you want some nice gore....there's a scene where the main protagonist is surround by zombies and he has a lawnmower to fend them off with hehehe....Oh and I enjoyed all the Resident Evil films, though number 1 and 2 I do favour more....I'm a HUGE zombie fan. Can't wait for the fourth one....bring on the Alice clones!
