AUTORUN EATER v2.4
Hi all
here's a little app i found which goes a long way to protect a pc from viruses+stuff
As the topic title suggests : its called autorun eater (fully installed its just under 5Mb)
it stops autorun.inf files from launching on flashdisks + it also blocks them from being copied onto the root of the flashdisk !! download from http://oldmcdonald.wordpress.com/
go visit the farm and get billy the goat...hahaha .its free and hardly uses any pc resources
This isnt a propper antivirus - it only check autorun.inf files , so run it along with avast/avira/
whatever anti-virus app u prefer
hope this helps

Agreed!Sojourn wrote:nifty lil app
I have checked out the site and installed the app.... very nice.
Also no ads on the site and the app is free.
Will be using it at home and at work from now on - thanks, Psi_Co_killa

Re: AUTORUN EATER v2.4
all this to avoid root-locking an autorun file or, better yet, disabling the auto-insert/play "feature" in windows?
these romans... they're crazy...

Re: AUTORUN EATER v2.4
I have seen removable drives and USB sticks execute code when initially plugged in, even with autorun and autoplay disabled.
Microsoft had to released a KB security update that tweaked the registry to stop it - granted this was way back in 2008, but it happens...

Re: AUTORUN EATER v2.4
the joys of linux are... being asked if you'd like to install the root-kit... ... (the auditors' are grand champion perpetrators....)
still, all my extern drives have a locked autorun & icon file included during setup... zero bytes of freedom... not that this prevents explorer from offering other vectors of infection, but it certainly beggars the 'haxors' using the .inf route...

Re: AUTORUN EATER v2.4
Setting up a blog on a blog-hosting service to promote something and then spamming the link all over the place is much more common than you seem to think it is (here's a practical example: take a look at your e-mail spam folder, and see how many *.blogspot.com links there are). Hence my extreme suspicions.Prime wrote:The dude has been around for 14 days.

Re: AUTORUN EATER v2.4
The problem for me is my flatmate and his delightful habit of plugging the his USB stick and cellphone - the removable media equivalents of prostitutes with every communicable disease known to man - into my PC.rustypup wrote:the joys of linux are... being asked if you'd like to install the root-kit... ... He's got folders on my desktop with pictures and videos of his car, "mxit skanks" (Jesus wept), and many other fascinating things. He also uses my 3G to browse a few car racing forums and facebook, amongst other things - so I need all the protection I can get.

Re: AUTORUN EATER v2.4
you gotta luv the interweb..
there i was describing pretty much exactly this app on another topic(the 1 above) hoping some1 with skills might make it..(although my idea is 4 it 2 run from the flashdisk itself) and not even 4 days later - i find something so close to it its almost uncanny...(while trying to learn more about autorun.inf commands - all i can do currently is assign an icon image to my flashdisk + launch 1 app.+ all that i just pretty much copied from Symenu's autorun.inf file...a paltry 5 lines of "code")
anyways - 2 every1 who finds this app usefull (+ sees the potential it has to save PC's:CHEERS!!!)
i am in the process of getting permission 2 install it on the PC's at the site i look after + all the PC's
at work as well.Educating PC users along the way...
They do mention a commercial version - so i suggest download it while its free...it wont b free for much longer...
ps..I tried thinstalling it + it all went ok - it launches properly from my flashy + everything...
only it doesnt seem to block those pesky file transfers anymore...
DAMN!!SO CLOSE!!!
