Where are you? If you're in Durban, speak to freecrimper freelurker freeloader; he knows that kind of thing.

Re: Cat 6!!
Go search on a company named ADC Krone. Get their cabling. They are the industry leader in network cabling and development on new technology in the field.

M-Tech in Vereeniging. They're a bit more expensive than you'd expect a manufaturer to be but they always have stock. I think they do Cat6.
I've gotten some 5e from them before with no hassles other than the collection. If you love your sanity send someone else to fecth the stuff
Else Jaycor. Haven't used them but they were highly recommended by an acquiantance.

I'd still go Krone. They are not expensive especially if you look at high quality.

Brand loyalty?
Although, for access control and CCTV systems we don't normally do long runs so quality isn't as big an issue as you'd find with real networks.
I'll actually give them a try next time we do a cabling job, thanks RRF.South Africa

I just expect quality and service. When I find it I tend to stick to whom provides both.doo_much wrote:Brand loyalty?

Re: Cat 6!!
No doubt.
CAT6 is promising for speed and I wouldnt mind getting some for a LAN session with a gig switch.
MY word that would rock.
Just need to make sure itll work . Ive got a CAT 6 cable that doesnt work in normal switches but it should.

Re: Cat 6!!
First of all, cat5e can handle gigabit speeds, we've done it at a few lans. That said, I bought a cat6 cable in Belgium, and it works fine on normal swithces as well
Buying it here, however, I would know.

Normal CAT5 cable handles Gigabit speeds as well (I'm pretty sure they are normal cat5 cables)SykomantiS wrote:First of all, cat5e can handle gigabit speeds, we've done it at a few lans. That said, I bought a cat6 cable in Belgium, and it works fine on normal swithces as well

Re: Cat 6!!
Yes normal CAT5 will handle 1Gb but over like 10meters only. If you want something more like 70meters you have to go CAT5e or CAT6Monty wrote:Normal CAT5 cable handles Gigabit speeds as well (I'm pretty sure they are normal cat5 cables)SykomantiS wrote:First of all, cat5e can handle gigabit speeds, we've done it at a few lans.
