Win 7 Upgrade query
Got a new packard bell notebook, came with vista, qualies for a free upgrade, but ms say i must speak to packard and packerd want to bust my chops for $49.95 (yes dollars, not rands) for shipping. I am in discussions about it with MS, but if they fail to resolve, what the law on using a buddies upgrade disc ? what about the key ? etc......

Re: Win 7 Upgrade query
A disc is a disc and thats it. Not entirely sure but I think they arent shipping the OS as a single package anymore. Which means your friend needs the exact same one that you would have gotten and you will need your own key. But I doubt that packard will send you the key without the sticker or they will be in deep ***** thenselves. But if it is from packard why dont they simply give you one that is in SA? Besides $50 = R400 and last time I shipped something from the states it was only $10. So they are looking to fork you like a pig over a grill.

Re: Win 7 Upgrade query
thats what i thought. very dissapointed in packard right now.
Re: Win 7 Upgrade query
Same situation with Acer, they will provide you with the free upgrade, but you have to pay for shipment of the media kit, also about R400. It does mention it somewhere in the Ts and Cs of the "Free Upgrade" though, so they'll just come back with a "you should've read the fine print" thing.Mclaren wrote:Got a new packard bell notebook, came with vista, qualies for a free upgrade, but ms say i must speak to packard and packerd want to bust my chops for $49.95 (yes dollars, not rands) for shipping. All upgrading is done through the 3rd party and not MS though.

Same thing with my girlfriends new Sony Vaio, came with Vista Home Premium and now to get the Windows 7 media they charge $15 to cover the shipping etc, which isn't too bad. $50 is excessive...

Re: Win 7 Upgrade query
I took it back. I am sorry but i feel that $50 is a bit much for shipping. I sent Packard a rather snotty mail bout it too. PAckards loss, not mine.
I will rather buy a machine with Win 7 on. much easier and less hassle, even if it is more expensive. i could buy a machine with win 7 basic and buy an upgrade thome premium for a little more than the price of shipping
