It just started doing this after a reinstall. I killed my computer on Monday and formatted it Monday night. It started doing this on Tuesday.Monty wrote:*cough* reinstall *cough*

Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike the Windows 7 superbar?

Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
I want things in my System Tray. Now I have to open half my program properties and run them in Vista Compatibility mode. I sometimes wish things would just work out the box the way they should.

I loathe having things in my system tray

Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
Yeah that was annoying, but the only program I use that had that issue is Windows Live Messenger.
Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
Things are tucked away in your system tray until you need them. I don't want to see that Skype or Messenger are running until I actually need them.Monty wrote:I loathe having things in my system tray

Not sure if you got it soughted stuart, but this link might help you:Stuart wrote:Okay, I did something that is irritating the socks off of me, and I don't know what it was. Normally when you insert a flash drive it opens up the pop up box asking what you want to do. I like that. I've managed to do something so that, instead of opening up the popup box and asking what I would like to do, it now places a shortcut to my desktop, which does NOT (ala Linux) delete when I remove the drive. It's even more irritating, however, because it also places a shortcut on my desktop for any of my virtual drives that have images mounted. What have I done, and where do I disable it?

Which version of Skype are you running? Mine went straight to the taskbar without any tweaking...Stuart wrote:Things are tucked away in your system tray until you need them. Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
So, my Win7 beta expired a week or so ago, got an Ultimate copy and is flying again.
Weirdest shyte though... Pinnacle used to work in compat mode on my beta, in this bought version it is dead no matter which way I try to make it work. I have actually now went and installed my old-XPsp2 (on a spare hdd) just to be able to import my video's from the camcorder.
Maybe this is some conspiracy to force people to get the Pinnacle software version for Win7?
Annoying as hell.

Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
just to clarify, did you try to run it within the XP virtual machine, (XP mode), or in xp compatibility mode?.. these are two distinct options - the one emulates the XP environment, the other modifies the executables access...

@Stuart - You can change autoplay options for removable drives from
Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Autoplay
All the configuration settings are there if you're still struggling with your problem

It's not an autoplay thing, because all the autplay options are still set correctly. It's something else.ADV4NCED wrote:@Stuart - You can change autoplay options for removable drives from

Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
Okay, I finally figured it out. It was a setting in Virtual CD, not Windows.Stuart wrote:Okay, I did something that is irritating the socks off of me, and I don't know what it was. Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
Don't know if it has been posted already, but I'm not gonna read thru 23 pages to see...
Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.
By creating a new folder in Windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.
The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.
To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.

Re: The Official Windows 7 Thread
You can do all of this with Control Panel?
You actually don't even have to go into the Control Panel. Just use the super startbar.
Start->Type an item to search for
eg. start typing partition or mouse

I have certain field programmes that use the standard audio codec, not the High Definition ones. I disabled some of these and now I cannot get them back? Any ideas?

Microsoft's already let out word that it's working on Windows 7 Service Pack 1, but it looks like the OS' first big update has now leaked out slightly ahead of schedule -- or a recent build of it, anyway. As expected there aren't any significant changes that are immediately apparent -- the biggest is the added RemoteFX functionality when paired with Windows Server -- but the install process is apparently at least much faster than it was for service packs on Windows Vista. Still no word on a proper release date from Microsoft just yet, but you can now check out a few more screenshots at the source link below.
