Mass Effect 2

Post by Interfan »

So we have a release date. I hope that bonus content will be available at one of our retailers or at least as dlc. BT got some of the DAO bonus content so there is hope.
Posted 10/16/09 17:17 (GMT) by Chris Priestly

We are very please today to announce the release date for Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect 2 will be released on January 26 in North America and January 29 in Europe.

As part of the announced launch, we are also announcing special pre-order incentives with key retailers in North America and Europe. Codes for downloading these items will be provided to players who have pre-ordered, usable when the game is released.

In North America, pre-order bonuses* include special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard’s skills and abilities. At GameStop, Terminus Gear is available with pre-orders, which includes the powerful Terminus Assault Armor and the M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon.

- The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.
- The M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2.

Players that pre-order Mass Effect 2 at other retail outlets in North America will receive the potent Inferno Armor, which is used by officers to monitor battlefield conditions by recognizing elevated heart rates, and regulates sub-systems with extreme efficiency to allow for greater response times – together these abilities translate in-game into a negotiation bonus for Commander Shepard and an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers.

“Our fans are in for a genuine thrill in the New Year with Mass Effect 2 – the second installment in the trilogy will be of amazingly high quality,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. “BioWare’s fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting this epic sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited to reward them for pre-ordering by delivering some awesome bonus content!”

Not sure if anyone else noticed but BT has updated the me 2 page. Now says if you preorder you get the terminus armor and some weaponary. Seems it will be another exclusive to them like the DAO preorder bonus items , don't see any of the other sites listing it.
Pre-Order now and receive special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard's skills and abilities.

* The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.

Wonder when we will be seeing some dx10/11 games. Both dragon age and ME2 are only dx9.

I didn't go back and fix each and every previous link I posted.

When the consoles can handle it. Multiplatform games will be sticking to dx9 till the consoles have dx 10/dx 11.

BTW. For those interested BT has the terminus armour as a pre order bonus.

Well we FINALLY made the jump to a 64-bit system that has the next dx version of games and now because xbox 360 and ps3 only support shader 3 we are stuck on dx9. Go go game consoles. LAME *** M***** ****ING GAME DEVELOPERS!

They put the 'next gen consoles' on hold cause of the financial crisis.Next consoles to be released by 2012 or so.

As far as I know "next gen consoles" arent going to be released for some time. Developers have only now started tapping the potential of the consoles. The systems specs are very limited and limited at this time but if you can take a game like MW2 that needs all that processing power and memory and a ps3/360 can also push 60 frames at full hd with only 512mb ram for both gfx and system then its still impressive.

Wonder what games on consoles would look like if they had i7 tech and 2gb system ram with 1gb gfx memory.

Confirmed :-(
The only reson for my sad smiley is because it means DX9 ports to PC for us. What happened to developing for PC and porting that to console?

Even when the game is developed for pc first developers are still sticking to dx9 because of the need to sell on consoles as well. Dragon Age had the pc as the master system but according to BW games simply won't cover the costs of development these days if you don't go multiplatform. So till the consoles catch up we will be seeing dx9 mainly with the odd element of dx10/dx11.

Vista screwed us over and now that everyone can finally move on the trend is to stick with dx9 and the out dated system. I know visually there are only 2 visual differences between dx9 and 10 and one of them is the fog effects that no longer gets cut off by other surfaces. Dx11 has something in it that makes it faster but its not on a visual level.

So does this mean that windows xp will live atleast untill 2012-2014 until the next generation of consoles hit us?

PS sorry on the sidetrack of the thread.

If Bioware adapts the PC interface as well as they did for ME1, I'm happy ^^

They have never let me down as far as this goes. All of me,kotor and even jade empire had decent interfaces on pc even though they were developed for console. Also ME 2 pc is being done in house by BW as opposed to ME 1 which was ported by another company.

Seems the dvd drive is starting to show its age. Going to need two discs to install, thankfully on pc there won't be disc swapping.

euro gamer on 2 discs me 2

Here's an explanation from Evil Chris on how it works:
Posted 12/03/09 23:53 (GMT) by Chris Priestly

Ok some details for you.

1 - Yes, there are 2 game discs for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions, both the Collector's and standard editions.

2 - There is a 3rd disc with the Collector's Edition. This is a movie DvD containing making of and other bonus information.

3 - The PC version is a standard install. You install the information from both discs and then play with 1 disc in the drive. No swapping.

4 - The Xbox 360 does not have an install and does require disc swapping during play.

5 - Even though there is a disc swap, it occurs at a carefully planned place in the game (that does not interfere with gameplay) and is done once. You do not swap back and forth. 1 swap and then done.

6 - Why 2 discs? Answer: Because you cannot fit this much awesome on one disc.

Hope this helps.

But but... if the game can fit onto 1 ps3 disc then it means that PS3 > awesome ?

Except that there is no ps3 version of mass effect. Blueray is still too expensive .

Further proving that xbox 360 isn't as awesome as ps3 and the game is not awesome enough for ps3

Will believe this when I see it. ME 1 is nowhere close to the bg,kotor or dao games so for ME 2 to be their best ever game will take massive effort imho.

Super news everyone. We will be getting both inferno and terminus armor if you preordered from BT games. Also really impressed with Michelle, she emailed me today even though I didn't do a followup email to ask again. With Adrian I always needed to do a followup , he never emailed me by himself.
Hi Stefan

Good News.
