Game Development
So anyone here into game development? Pro or Hobby, doesn't matter.
I'm currently doing some tutorials on XNA 3.0, and I frequently use Game Maker 7. I also fool around in the Blender Game Engine. There's also the occasional fool-around with things like Total Eclipse(2D MMO maker) and a few failed attempts at RealmCrafter.
In my opinion, Game Maker is the easiest tool for making 3D games out there. Sure you get stuff like Adventure game studio etc. but I find GM7 works best.
So, care to share?

Re: Game Development
Unfortunately game development is out of my league. It would be interesting to follow any projects you might be doing though.

Well, if you have Facebook, you can follow "Pea My Love". It's not much, but it's my longest project so far.Koko_Lion wrote:Unfortunately game development is out of my league. It would be interesting to follow any projects you might be doing though.

There are one or two others, but I'm not too 'serious' about them.

Re: Game Development
Game Maker can be downloaded at yoyogames.com. Game Maker 8 was released just a few weeks ago, and all the tutorials included are updated for the new version. As far as help goes regarding Game Maker 8, follow a few tutorials on the Game maker website(yoyogames.com) and feel free to use this thread to ask for help. It's easier than it looks.

I guess this is a very late reply to your comment but yeah some day in the not too far distant galaxy. As a single person working on a project a few years is likely the end result plus having a day job makes things worse and having freelance modeling odd jobs things do get any easier.wizardofid may offer more insight...
<goes back to wondering if PA will ever see the cold, hard, light of day...>
But put it this way just in the last two years I have created over 5000 meshes plus countless textures written numerous pages of scripting.Yeah this never intended to be a short term project as my skills improved and evolved so did the game...
But I finally got to a stage of compiling lights maps and basically have to test collision AI among other stuff and rinse and repeat to make sure the end result is the same every time.
I think that answer your old question ?

I am currently developing with Unity. You should definitely check them out (if you haven't already).

Re: Game Development
There are 2 versions. The free version is good enough to create a good 2D/3D game, but the Pro version has a lot of cool (extra) features. When you download the free version, you get a trial of 30 days to use the Pro version.

Re: Game Development
I assume you need the fast asset set loading features and perhaps more network functionality. If you have tried the free version and you're comfortable with the interface, Unity Pro should be right for you.capanno wrote:Cause the stuff I want to do requires the pro version...
I'm still kinda new to Unity, but I really like how the engine works. Before moving to Unity I worked with Torque which is also a great engine with a LOT of community resources, but I felt the need to try Unity. (Taking a brake from Torque Script )

Re: Game Development
Probably better to do some screenshots rather than uploading the source / compiled .exe to an external site
