OpenSolaris
OpenSolaris
Anybody tried this yet? I've ordered the DVD and am quite keen to give it a go... Looks very nice from the reviews I've read so far. Similar to Linux, but without as much support and development at this stage, although it's growing quite rapidly.

Re: OpenSolaris
used it once or twice... it is linux - just the butchered sun version... impressively stable, for the most part, but still not as feature-rich as other distros...
haven't used it for just under a year, so i might take a peek again sometime soon..

Solaris is Unix but OpenSolaris is linuxrustypup wrote:used it once or twice... it is linux
Re: OpenSolaris
It's based on Unix System V.
I'd definitely give the newer version a go, as I believe a lot has been added to the 2009.06 release. The media ships from the US and takes a few weeks, so give me a shout if you want a copy.
I read about it's stability, but lack of consumer features, which makes me think it might serve better as a server install over a desktop OS, but we shall see.rustypup wrote:used it once or twice... it is linux - just the butchered sun version... impressively stable, for the most part, but still not as feature-rich as other distros...
