Have a question about a router reset
Have a question about a router reset
My friend uses a d-link router. He set his own password on it and after all this time the idiot forgot his password. If he resets the router (using a pin or something) will he loose all his info on the router? (internet connection data, port forwards etc)

Re: Have a question about a router reset
Yep. reset == lose data. All of it.
Re: Have a question about a router reset
Ah damit. Is there no way of recovering the password?

Re: Have a question about a router reset
I'm assuming he changed it from the default password?
How difficult can it be to set up the router again after resetting it? Is he a complete idiot?

Re: Have a question about a router reset
Yes, yes he is. The only settings that he really wants too keep is his port forwarding settings cause he doesn't them all... sighStuart wrote:I'm assuming he changed it from the default password?

Re: Have a question about a router reset
And he changed his password? It's not still set on the default? Have you tried the default username and password?
Re: Have a question about a router reset
He has tried using Admin as the username and the password as "password", "admin" and leaving it blank

Re: Have a question about a router reset
It makes me nervous when you say that he can do weird things with IP addresses. lol. Don't think my friend is going to fall for it though. Think he will be too afraid to give up his IP....Stuart wrote:Try ...Qrox wrote:He has tried using Admin as the username and the password as "password", "admin" and leaving it blank

Anthro is a mod. If you can't trust a mod, who can you trust?

Re: Have a question about a router reset
Just want to make sure about sending the IP to Anthropoid. If he wants to know his IP should he just go to a site like http://www.ip-adress.com/ or what? I know that this will give you his IP but I believe you need the routers IP

Re: Have a question about a router reset
How is he trying to log into the router? Has he forgotten the router's IP Address too?
Re: Have a question about a router reset
My knowledge of routers are pretty limited as well. As far as I know all the routers, default IP's are generally "192.168.0.1" so I'm not sure how Anthropoid is supposed to connect to that address if there are more then one routers with that IP out there...

Re: Have a question about a router reset
Quite a few routers also use '10.0.0.2'

Ok. Even if that is the case. How is he supposed to find out his router IP then?DarkStar wrote:Quite a few routers also use '10.0.0.2'

This is the internal IP. Anthro needs the external IPQrox wrote:Ok. Even if that is the case. How is he supposed to find out his router IP then?DarkStar wrote:Quite a few routers also use '10.0.0.2'

I just have some tricks I can share that's all..
If he feels confident enough he can gladly send me his IP..
