how to remove a partition.....

Post by mrplaya911 »

Hi guys, I have a problem. I was running two operating systems on my computer on the same hard drive (on two separate partitions). I logged into the one I wanted to keep and formatted the other partition, thereby deleting that operating system, but now whenever I boot up I still get the boot menu that tells me to choose which operating system I want to run.

Does anyone know how I can remove this boot menu so that I can just boot directly into the operating system I have kept installed?

Thanks,
Mrplaya911

So ...

Which operating systems were you dual booting? And which of the two have you kept?

You must mean bootloader I guess. You can use vistaboot pro if you were using xp and vista, you can delete the OS entries with it.

Methinks you are referring to the two entries shown on the black screen just before the OS boots, and you want to remove the one entry so the pc will automatically boot into the only remaing OS? Did I get that right?

So, right click My Computer >> Properties >> Advanced >> Startup and recovery >> Settings >> Edit
That should bring up a window containing the two text entries for the dual booting. Simply remove the one line for the OS entry you are not using, and save.

Done.

These are the steps to follow to get that window in an XP os, but I guess it's the same steps for vista. (I'm assuming those are the two you dual booted)

It has also been answered by several people. Can we assume that you have the problem sorted?

Well, there are several ways of doing it, the way I suggested totally removes it from the options, not just hiding it away, cause if you remove the partition I see no reason why you would want to keep the entry.

Ah, I see...

In XP you could use notepad to modify the boot.ini file. M$ decided to change the way Vista boots, and did away with the boot.ini file. I can't seem to recall the procedure to follow in Vista but that might be the Zamalek's fault.
