Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
Using 10 Beta 2 at the moment, and so far very impressive!
Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
I have an issue with Opera - most sites detect it as a mobile browser and therefore show me the mobile version of the site.
http://www.highveld.co.za for example, redirects to http://www.highveld.mobi/pages/index.asp
http://www.netbank.co.za loads fine, but it does not accept my profile number (think Opera reports this incorrectly or something)
Any ideas what/why this is or how to fix?
Version information
Version - 10.00 Beta 2
Build - 1642
Platform - Win32
System - Windows XP
Java - Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.6
XHTML+Voice - Plug-in not loaded

... no... you have an issue with the site maintainers... why do you think opera would redirect you to a .mobi page?... bad whiskey?UrBaN wrote:I have an issue with Opera
have you tried modifying the agent string?

One thing I have to say is that it is very stable. Had my pc bomb a couple of days ago and the only thing that remained functioning was opera.

RuadRauFlessa, I don't go to their site either, just happened to check out the sound of JHB link and it went spazzo.
Bank sites don't work, some Google sites don't work..it's quite annoying.

Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
Code: Select all
right click->Edit Site Preferences->Network->Identify As....
won't work with highveld as the tjop redirects you before the site has actually loaded... which is funny like a migraine... send them an e-smack...
the netbank issue is probably not that simple.. sounds like either a cookie or a script issue.. to check :
Code: Select all
Tools->Advanced->Error Console->Clear
also, keep in mind the beta tag is there for a really good reason...

I will do that, but will probably end up posting the results here - not too clued up on such things.rustypup wrote: the netbank issue is probably not that simple.. sounds like either a cookie or a script issue.. to check :load the site, enter your details and submit. once it fails, check the error console for anything obvious... Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
You can just use this link: http://www.highveld.co.za/pages/index.asp to go to the main page in Opera, once there you can change the site preferences if you wish. The same issue used to exit with Ster Kinekor's site a while back, now all I do is use http://www.sterkinekor.com/site.php to go straight to the home page bypassing their site checks. As for Banking websites, I use Standard Bank and the funny thing is it sometimes loads, and sometimes doesn't. I'm guessing, and hoping, these issues will be ironed out in the final release.
Edit:
When I use Mask as Internet Explorer, my banking site seems to load and work just fine?

if the banking sites use active-x, not a chance. the highveld issue sure as sugar won't be. the opera dev's have nothing to do with site re-direction. that's the site maintainer's idiocy...Xiphan wrote: I'm guessing, and hoping, these issues will be ironed out in the final release.
as another example of this type of silliness, there's the revelation that many web 'developers' can't count higher than 9...

Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
Standard Bank works fine on the current opera 9.x release.
Same Goes for Sterkinekor-interstingly enough their entire site is flash. Have you updated your flash player?
Can't see why it would misbehave in opera 10 beta
And as for Highveld, wait, WTF are you listening to Highveld?

Yea all java based stuff seems fine.
Prime, I listen to 5 different radio stations at different times of the day - 5, Highveld, Jacaranda, UJFM, Midrand FM - I can't stand commercial music ala Lady K@k@, and I find adverts annoying, so I chop and change until I find something decent.

Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
No it doesn't use active-x, the Standard Bank site on Opera for some strange reason doesn't work as flawlessly as it does on IE, in fact sometimes it doesn't seem to even work that well on Firefox, which is the browser I resort to when something doesn't work on Opera.rustypup wrote:if the banking sites use active-x, not a chance.
I know, the site does work on Opera you just can't load the site from just the domain name. You have to link directly to the index page or else you get redirected to the mobile site!rustypup wrote:the highveld issue sure as sugar won't be. the opera dev's have nothing to do with site re-direction. that's the site maintainer's idiocy...
Sigh, I saw that. Opera 10 appears to sites as Opera 9.80.rustypup wrote:as another example of this type of silliness, there's the revelation that many web 'developers' can't count higher than 9...
I sometimes had weird issues with Standard Bank even on a 9 stable release, for instance parts of the site would not load after clicking on a link or it would throw up some hectic exception error.Prime wrote:Standard Bank works fine on the current opera 9.x release.
I never said it does it now, I'm saying Ster Kinekor used to do it. Before if you tried to open the link http://www.sterkinekor.com in Opera, it would load a page called http://www.sterkinekor.com/sniffer.php? and this page used to redirect the Opera browser to the mobile version of site. Until they fixed it I had to link directly to http://www.sterkinekor.com/site.php in order to use the normal version of the site.Prime wrote:Same Goes for Sterkinekor-interstingly enough their entire site is flash. Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
I've been doing that in FF with Firegestures for ages, except mine actually switches the tab instead of showing me that little menu. I wouldn't be able to live without that feature...
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

I prefer that it lets you select the tab without autoswitching there. I'm sure it's customiseable though.

That is an awesome find! Thank you for posting that. The only gestures I've been using up until now have been the ones for back and forward and opening links in new tabs. This one is sure to become a new fav!RuadRauFlessa wrote:I dunno if this is new but it is sooo cool

Re: Opera 10 Beta: Stunning!
Nah the gesture I use the most is the one to close a tab. I open up every thread I watch in a diff tab and when I am finished I just use a gesture on them and they are closed.
