So basically what you are sayong is you did not think your cunning plan all the way through and all the refreshes are basically doing an old school saturation DDoS on the PCF serverRon2K wrote:Just to let you guys know - I've disabled the active topics page automatically refreshing due to serious concerns I have over server load.

It's not the only change I've made. Things like user online/offline listing and dotted topics have been switched off as well.

what on earth is a "dotted topic"?Ron2K wrote:It's not the only change I've made. Things like user online/offline listing and dotted topics have been switched off as well.
would these concerns have anything to do with the slowness of the site today?

And yes, that's why the site was extremely slow today. The server couldn't take any more of your punishment.

International, to the best of my knowledge - bandwidth costs being the primary reason there.Stuart wrote:this server move of which you speak, will it still be local?

Aw that means I (amongst others) wont be able to view PCF when we are capped ...

But what will we do when we're capped?Ron2K wrote:International, to the best of my knowledge - bandwidth costs being the primary reason there.

I can see this being a highly unpopular move. I suggest you disable all PMs to Nab's inbox pronto!

Yea PCF is generally the last bastion of hope for capped peeps, and you're not removing it...can't think of a reason for it either. surely it will be MORE expensive???

You really think that local hosting is cheaper than hosting in the States? (For example)UrBaN wrote:Yea PCF is generally the last bastion of hope for capped peeps, and you're not removing it...can't think of a reason for it either. surely it will be MORE expensive???

Re: Random Refreash....
No. Looking at one hosting provider's charges (not the one we're using), ZA bandwidth is R340/GB, international is R23/GB. Sadly, this becomes an issue when you have a website that uses over 50GB bandwidth in a month.UrBaN wrote:Yea PCF is generally the last bastion of hope for capped peeps, and you're not removing it...can't think of a reason for it either. surely it will be MORE expensive???
If you don't like it, picket outside Telkom's head offices.

WiK1d,
Oh well, I usually top up a day or two after being capped anyway so it won't be a train smash.

Re: PCF server discussion
You do know that ADSL "should" become a LOT cheaper around June/July, thus local okes will be able afford international..Stuart wrote:still ... without the ability for local only guys to surf you may lose some members.KillerByte wrote:the new hosting plan is exciting.
