LED modding.

Post by Frozenfireside »

Hi
I have some LEDs in the post which will be turned into a project for my PC and my GFs moms fancy dress costume.
I shall post pics but I'm hoping it will be epic. I bought some insane LEDs for the project and it will need a bit of nous but I don't see why it can't be done.

You do understand of course that nobody has any idea what this is for?

Except for a bot of nous.

erm I do at that's all that counts (wow I was tempted to miss spell that word but I would be banned for it).
It's not what you think.
There is a minor other project I want to use the following for:
Led 5mm 5 Chip Narrow Angle- Ultra Bright Blue 3.5 lm (12000MCD)
This will go towards the feet of my chassis.

Sounds cool and I am interested in your modding, I just don't quite know what it is you're doing.

Could you explain a little more? Or is this one being kept under wraps for now?

Right. After a few days at work I have began to realise how much free time I had when studying. I have finished the LED mod. I didn't get pictures of the process but I did get pics of the final out come (less impressive then I imagined)

Now my plan was to have 20 LEDs running in a circuit and plant these in a dress for my GFs moms fancy dress thing for work. She is a doctor and so we had to come up with a futuristic medicine idea, like a wireless stethoscope.

We decided to create a cell with a double helix in side of it and the LEDs would be the futuristic medicine fighting an infection. unfortunately 20LEDs was a bit over the top so we settled on 8 which dropped to 4 in the end because we didn't have the correct 9V batteries.

basically the layout was a 18V voltage supply with 8 LEDs @ 2volts and @ 20mA each.
Thus R=V/I = 18-16/0.020 =100ohms.
This would work well and all could be laid out in series but we ended up using 1.5V batteries so the voltage wasn't enough.

I will upload some pics but I needed to get home as it had been a long couple days and nights.

The dress was awesome in the end and I got my mate to help me get it done in the end. Thanks Pinkerton! :D

Sorry I kept you guys in the dark but my bright LEDs will make up for it!!! Can't believe I just posted that...
