Overclocking a Pentium 4?

Post by Ryan.Cockbain »

Hi,

My old system has a Pentium 4 CPU, I am thinking of overclocking it with a P5Q mobo. Any idea what speed I will get with it and what cooler I will need?

Thanks

I think it would help people if you also post its stock clockspeed, otherwise it won't really be possible to predict it's potential, overclocked clockspeed accurately. :)

we can guess though. i predict 14.2 GHz with any thermaltake cooler. try it ... let us know how it works out.

Stuart, You forgot the Thermaltake PSU you monkey, he'll never get 14.2GHz without that.

BOT: Ryan, any luck with that screenshot?

The reason it is being asked for is because different models of P4, including different CPU Steppings (revisions) have different overclock abilities.

Is it standard or aftermarket cooling?

List your PC specs (including PSU, RAM etc) in order for us to be of more assistance.

The problem with a P4 is if I overclocked my oven I would get the same amount heat from both.
Soon Google will know everything...including how to divide by zero :(

Sure you did :D

Anyway, a P4 at 3.2Ghz is not going to get a whole lot faster. The slower ones have more headroom.
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.
