why dont you do the forum like it was before where there is 10 quick links in the chillout section for the last 10 active topics and another box for the 10 quick links in the rest of the forum?

If you dont know the answer to that yet... here's your sign!

If spam was a problem we'd deal with it.

Since we haven't - it isn't.

But hey, we can keep this thread going for 23 pages, if that makes you feel better....

Nope, thats a good idea...

Set a few threads or perhaps even sections so that it does not add to the users post count.

Its been done on a few others forums, works rather well. Is at times nice.

The main reason I still visit PCF is for the anime section :?
Ever since the change I have stopped using PCF for PC hardware and news as its too much of a hassle to filter through all the forums and so on to find things that may catch my attention :-/

Spam may help keep the forum active in a certain way, although we have dedicated threads for that :P

Oh grow up Mow. If you don't like the spam, do some work. But frankly, the tech section of this sight is hardly pumping. When there's a topic, the spammers are usually the first to answer. Reason: because unlike the rest of you, we're active on the forum.

And just so you know how retarded this topic is, several thousand of my posts are in tech threads, i could say the same for a few others.

Since when do we grade forumites posts and responses on post counts!

If you want something to grade people on, introduce a thank you system. If you found someones post helpful, you click thank you. Or give them +1 rep.

The chill out section exists for those with a sense of humour. Clearly something some people lack.

PsyCLown, there is this link called the Board Index - neatly divided into sections. And there is a tech section there.

Prime, don't get all hot under the collar. There are people that like to post - and there are those that don't. Even in those two sections there are varying degrees of like and dislike. It can become annoying when you click on a topic where there has been a response and the last 10 are hehe, ROFL, ,   , :? ,  etc. So I can see how annoying that is. Thing is those responses are not actually only from "spammers".

I have noticed that some people really do post less than they used to - I put it down to busy lives. I really don't see how a few topics can put someone off tech or anime threads. Yes they like to complain - but then so does everyone.

Just a question to the non-spammers. Do you take the spammers technical posts and questions seriously? I'm asking because maybe it's just me, but I've noticed when I make a query it's a spammer to answer first, sarcastically, and I rarely get any valuable input. It seems as though spammers are discriminated against.

We are - but not by everyone. I used to feel like you do - so that is why I do tend to stay away from the tech threads. Whatever you post - they see it as spam. It is as if they are saying "On no - not Tribble again". But not everyone is like that. If you reply to a thread and you have valuable input - some of them generally do take it as such.

If i feel a thread deserves an amusing response i'll give it one. But then i'll also add in a proper response. I seldom spam a thread for the hell of it. Although the oval one had it coming but i did contribute advice to it

This forum has progressed for the better over the last year or so, sections are neatly divided up into two main categories, discussion, fun, debate and even a dedicated spam thread. The second being a technical information and help section.
This forum has not changed radically over the last six years, I know this because I and some others, Only1, jee, Kronos and some I am missing have been here all the time. The biggest difference is that we have far less flames than we used to, in the old days there were no mods or admins, just Cameron Losco who sort of controlled this space. All was well until the porn attacks and overseas spammers and Google champions started to arrive. Around this time Mods started to arrive and believe it or not, the first Mods were voted for by their peers. Some of these are still here today.
My point is this, we are a fun forum with some Tech help, as it should be, I, for example, have received a great deal of technical help here, either by directly asking for it or reading the threads. Technical people come and go but a fair bit of help still remains. There are forums that are much more technical than this one, you can always go there for a look.
The spam sections in Chillout always existed and as far as I am concerned they play an important part, they bring people together and some are very good fun. Occasionally they are plain stupid and locking them is the best option.
Regarding post counts, they are quite meaningless, I doubt sincerely that a plea for technical help will draw a negative response because of a post count, only a fool would react in that manner. I have noticed that people like Tribble sometimes invoke negative comments, I fail to see the reason why, all a high post count shows is activity on the forum. Activity is to be encouraged. Suffice to say that no changes will be made to the way the post count is done, no splits will be made, no further action will be taken, if you are envious of somebodies high count, post more frequently.
I am sorely tempted to lock this thread now, I will check it again later.

Guys you have missed the point completely. This was not about post count. I DONT CARE HOW BIG YOUR EPEEN IS . Give the spammers there post count it doesnt matter. What this is about ( to me atleast ) is that i need to go digging for a technical thread because the top 10 - sometimes more active topics are spam threads. So yes maybe all im longing for was the sidebar that could show me the tech topics separate from the casual topics.

Prime,

Do you really think i deserved your statement about growing up or was that outburst merely to look cool. I though you were one of the more decent and respectable forum members. Looks like I was wrong.

-1 internets from both you and Prime. Now, lets act like adults shall we?

I see where Mow is coming from. Mow, you could do what I did. Firstly, get Opera. Then, create a Speed Dial to the tech section of PCF. That way you bypass the other nonsense which doesn't seem to interest you.

Firefox also has the speed dial extension.
Why not use the board index?

Its not that im not interested urban. Its that its becoming too much. Lancelot would remember that I was one of the most active posters in the original Knights of the round table thread. I love the social interaction. But back then it was easy to spot the threads I was interested in. Now i spend more time navigating to where I wanna be that actually posting.

Mow, I am under the impression that with the new phpBB programme, a side bar cannot be created. Therefore the board index seems to be the only way.
