Project: Stardust [Finished]
Finally the holidays have arrived and I can start making this case a reality.
This is roughly how it will look:
It will be a rather large case - 0.5m x 0.5m from the side. I'm making it this big because I've had enough of these small cases where there's no room to work in. The case will be made of plexi alone, and maybe a few other stuff to keep it together.
But I have a question:
I've bought Tensol no12 from maizeys, but is there anything else or another method of keeping 2 pieces of plexi firmly together? This case needs to be strong, as I frequently move it around...
EDIT:
I've changed the design a bit due to difficulty fabricating the side panels

I would love to have a plexi glass pc. But I'm not that good with tools.

Re: Project: Stardust
Update time already
I cut the top and bottom panels of the case:
The first method I tried is by cutting a grove in the plexi with a knife, and then breaking it.
The first one didn't work so well, but luckily the part that got the crack was offcut anyway. (Sorry, forgot the pic)
The second one went much, much better, but the last 3cm wasn't groved deep enough so that part went wrong.
So with the offcut from the first try I was able to make another top. But this time I used a saw. Worked perfectly.
Unfortunately it's dark and too late to continue the work. Tomorrow I'll make the front and rear panel.

Re: Project: Stardust [update]
Nice idea and it looks good too! Instead of the Tensol you can use Pratley quickset clear epoxy. VERY Expensive if you are going to do your whole case with it. But the Tensol is the best stuff for plexi as it actually fuses the plexi pieces together. Much the same as PVC weld does to PVC pieces and pipes.
I am wondering if you are going to add some kind of internal frame/structure to keep the case strong? I see you bought 3mm plexi which tend to be flexible. Maybe cut 10mm wide plexi strips and glue it to the edges of each panel to increase the stiffness of the panels.

Re: Project: Stardust [update]
Is there a spesific way I should use the tensol? I tried sticking two small pieces together last night and this morning I broke it with ease...
What I thought could work is use a lot of 90* bent plexi and screw all the pieces together. It will also give an armored look to it I think. I also bought this 90degree Aluminum angle bar that I might use somewhere, but I'd really prefer using only plexi
As for an internal frame, I will try to make it that everything inside (cdrom bay, hhd bay, mobo backplate, etc) will keep it strong.

Re: Project: Stardust [update]
The bad news is, I had just too much trouble bending the plexi so that it stays right and then tracing the front and rear panels from the sides. So I had to tweak my design a bit. It is much easier to have a flat side panel, and it still looks pretty good.

Re: Project: Stardust [update]
That looks much more interesting
You could also use square perspex bar to help stiffen the edges

They'll work, right? I'm not too sure about the LED's, but if they don't I don't have to use them
