Japan’s Anime International Company (AIC) has today signed a basic contract with Singapore’s Cubix International for a proposed live action film adaptation of the Bubblegum Crisis anime franchise. The original Bubblegum Crisis show sold over 600,000 units on laserdisc and VHS. It was then followed up by a prequel series “AD Police Files” and shortly afterwards a follow up series “Bubblegum Crash.” In 1998 Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 was released which, also spawned a AD Police television series and the Parasite Dolls movie.
Cubix International is planning a budget of several billion yen, yes you heard right several billion and that’s a lot of zeros. Along with Anime International Company (AIC) they are aiming for a 2011 release in the United States and the rest of the world. The two studios will be working closely together Shinji Aramaki (screenplay and mechanical design) and Kenichi Sonoda (character design)to stay as close as possible to the concept and story of the original series. This is some interesting news now they just need a good director, because all the money in the world wont fix a bad movie.
