Had to reinstall Vista. Recycling old updates

Post by Hex_Rated »

StarForce killed my old Vista installation good and proper, FFS. I've reinstalled but I want to know is there anyway of taking old patches / updates over to the new installation. Is it worth it? Or should I just update everything.

Thanks guys!

NB: Never try install any old starforce games on Vista x64. It will kill it. I couldn't repair it, nothing. I managed to get in once by deleting the sfdrv02.sys file and then after subsequent reboots BSOD'd everytime. Even safe mode.

If you do find a way to backup old updates please let me know :). I want to re-install my Vista OS but I dont want to kill my cap with updates...

Ha ha :) I was going to ask the same thing

I have heard of getting updates out of a working install but never a dead one... It would be handy though

I'm really surprised you don't know about this:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Copy that folder/burn to disk and replace the clean installs folder after the reinstall with this folder.

MY XP updates FTW
