Vodacom reveals iPhone plans

Post by Firestrm_ZA »

Johannesburg - After much waiting and an Apple-appropriate level of secrecy, Vodacom has finally launched the iPhone and announced its pricing plans.

If you check the prices CORRECTLY, you'll see that they're pretty close to prices everywhere else. It's not only expensive HERE, it's expensive everywhere.

The $199 you speak of is on a contract, just like here.

I really like the idea of an iPhone, but no MMS ? That is just wrong.

I've been seriously considering getting one. I'm tired of my Touch, and want something new. So far it's between the iPhone and HTC's new Android powered Dream (A.K.A T-Mobile G1).

QFT, and the fact that they only considered 3g on on the second edition.

Well I still love my iPhone and I've used quite a few PDA phones, I guess some will like it and some won't, and if you don't then don't buy it, simple. ;)

Apple doesn't include many features as standard like video recording etc but you can download tons of 3rd party apps from App Store and Cydia if yours is Jailbroken. I have video recording on mine and tons of other useful apps like mobile file storage which allows me to setup my iPhone as a storage device over the wireless and access it through a web interface, software to use it as a wireless router, iTunes remote which allows me to control iTunes on my computer from my iPhone over the wireless and tons of other cool apps.

I also much prefer the looks of the iPhone and the Mac OS interface over all the other options.

And that in bold is exactly I find so ridiculous, features that would be standard on anyother phone, you have to pay for on the iphone.

And for a lot less, you could build yourself a media centre PC with a remote and alot more functionality. :?

I have had an iphone for a while, its damn cool no matter what u say. And yes u do have to download apps, so what? i quite like the fact that i can download 3rd party tools to change the way my phone operates. But i do agree that the pricing on the 3g version is a little crazy, I am a massive apple fanboy, but on my next upgrade in a month, i am pretty sure it will be an Htc in my pocket.

I read stories some time back that the iPhone 3G really isn't.

Apparently they tend to drop calls and only switch to 3G once in a blue moon, most of the time they tend to stay on EDGE

I don't know if has been rectified.

Used to be true, the new update fixes most of the call dropping issues, as for the 3g, we have not had issues yet. The phone gets 3g everywhere it should, the only problem is the 3g coupled with the touch screen kills the battery life, u get just over a day usually. Which again is kinda useless for me.

Yeah with Firmware 2.1 it's very stable and fast again. Most of the time I have wifi access, so upgrading to the 3G isn't so appealing to me unless I find a really cheap deal. My next phone will probably be an HTC Touch HD though.
